It's backwards compatible, therefore, you can play them on your regular DVD Player which means why should a fan have to purchase the trilogy all over again just cause it's Blueray Technology or HD-DVD if it's backwards compatible just like the one's you already own???[/b]
Yes, but re-purchasing the trilogy might(?) be worth it if you upgrade to an HD-TV which shows the new resolution. I've gone into this in detail in your thread in the DVD forum, so I'll stop there.

I believe that there IS some comparison to be made between RotS and LotR, in a point brought up by Mav. Yes, it's true that we all know the basic plot of Episode III -- most of it was summarized rather nicely by Obi-Wan himself in RotJ, and the rest can be inferred from AotC (I'm guessing; I haven't seen AotC). The plot of LotR was also known in advance too -- 50 years in advance, in far more excrutiating detail than anything from Star Wars. Yet PJ&Co. were very careful with their spoilers, understanding that there are non-plot elements of surprise that people wanted to reserve for their theatre viewing. Nobody came out of RotK complaining that they hated it because they already knew the plot. (Admittedly, some came out hating it, but for other reasons.)

That said, I think "element of surprise" isn't the exact concept. I guess the concept is show-not-tell. Face it, it's one thing to read something or know something, it's quite another to experience it on screen. We want to surprised in the theatre at HOW it happens, even if we already read online what's going to happen.

It's a fine balance between revealing just enough to whet your appetite and yet holding enough back so the audience doesn't walk into the theatre fully jaded. Little things such as the famous Star Wars scroll are part of the HOW that people want in the theatre. BKB seems to think that Lucas is upsetting that balance.
