America's Heart and Soul - Worst Documentary Of 2004
Author Message
Post America's Heart and Soul - Worst Documentary Of 2004
I finally got around to watching America's Heart and Soul.

I remember hearing that it was supposed to be a reply of sorts to Fahrenheit 9/11. What it is in reality is one of the most half baked attempts at patriotism I've ever seen. Shame on you Disney.

The film follows dozens of "average" Americans from coast to coast living their lives to the fullest. Americans who play the fiddle, climb mountains (blind no less), milk cows, design home made cannons, and of course, work as bike messengers.

Trite garbage with occasionally interesting cinematography.

Heh. Is it even a documentary? Most documentaries, even non-political ones, deliver some message. While there's unbiased ones that just narrate events, America's Heart and Soul (especially with that title...) can't be considered one of 'em.

I guess the message was that the USA is A-OKAY.

That's a fucking stupid message if you're just showing off normal people. Even if they were interesting, it still wouldn't be enough to unconsciously make me admire everything about America.

The movie seemed nonsensical on paper, too...

At least "Celsius 41," or whatever it was called, had a point that it tried developing...

If anything, the film made me hate Americans.

If Disney and the filmmakers wanted to add fuel to the Anti-America fire, they succeeded.

You're surprised that the corporation responsible for Celebration, FL would distribute something like this???????

I'm not. I heard this was a piece of garbage thrown together last minute in response to F9/11 and not even a technically well executed documentary. It had no point. People may not like Moore's point, or his lack of subtlty, but there's no argueing he synthesized an idea, had a desire for "activist" cinema, and went with it.

America's Heart and Sole was just a response piece to that movie where a couple people shocked that someone would find Bush's handling of 9/11 inappropriate. Rather than do a counter documentary on the situation and how it was handled, providing evidence of *competency* [hard to find, I know] or even doing a piece on the sentiments of people in support of the handling of the situation [q&a] style, these guys ran out and masturbated to the nuclear family ideal.

Anyways, I haven't seen it, and don't plan to. This is one movie that I would never financially support in regards to a single one of its aspects.

You're still paying the cable company, which will give a small fraction of your money to each channel...

Yeah, I was about to say. Then the Neilson ratings come out, and it has a high number, and cable starts playing it more because they'll get good viewership and think America wants this type of programming. They'll offer more of it, The Heart and Soul of America (tm) will feel empowered by everyone's love of thier products, and it will be a viscious downward spiral.

Look for Bush to crown himself shortly.

Thanks alot Loyal.

Dolce is right.

I should really stop watching Stacked. No wonder FOX hasn't kicked it off the air yet...

Put your money where your mind is...welcome to one of the strong potential's of capitalism if people actually used it.

Anyways, works for me that loyal saw it, now I can be confirmed in the fact I thought from the onset it was a joke.

I hope one day i get screeners for this stuff? Then I can trash it without paying for it, and hopefully dissuade people from finacially supportig it. :P

BTW, don't buy a house in Celebration(ville), pretty please.
