Post subject:  Admittedly anticipated, DAY OF THE DEAD! THIS WEEKEND!
So are we going to have a Day of the Dead Movie Night soon? I want to see it before the Land comes out in theatres, so that I'll actually be able to see Land big screen.

Now I've already seen some images from this one, and it looks like its going to be pretty gory, but I think I can do it. Plus I hear there's a "Wild Child/Kaspar Hauser-type training of a zombie by a scientist in this one. Sounds interesting.

Anyways, i wanted to start the thread up with plenty of time, since I won't be able to do it next weekend, but maybe the following one would be good for everyone?

Let me know what you guys think.

i'm definitely in! day of the dead is less action oriented and more focused on trying to deal with the zombie plague, but it's still extremely gory and fun.

I was hoping to get a long article in before Land of the Dead comes out, with enough time to link it. When does Land come out exactly? I really want to see this soon. Getting myself excited, heh. Maybe this could be the one break you take from studying this weekend???

Hey guys, change of schedule for me because the medialab is closed on the weekends in the summer (I didn't know that). I'm going to rent it tomorrow! So expect some commentary very soon.

I think its better that I'm watching it in the middle of the day in a library envirnment anyways. Won't be as jumpy.

About the only movie that could freak me out in an envirnment like the viewing stations would have to do with vampire librarians or somethiing.... :lol:

I'm actually getting excited about this. I've been playing around with some ideas in my head about a Romero bit, because I've kinda taken a liking to him. I need to hold my breath and pray Day of the Dead doesn't dissappoint though. If its anything like I'm expecting though, I'm going to go opening day to Land. \:D/

i think you'll love Day Dolce. it's more "talky" than dawn, but it's really interesting how the scientists try and reverse/contain the zombie crisis while dealing with the impatient and borderline insane leader of the military, Captain Rhodes. Dr Frankenstein's experiments on the zombie specimens are strange and grizzly. Don't get me wrong though, this film is still extremely violent and i think pound for pound has the most violent ending to a movie that i've ever seen. ok, i won't give any more away.. i'm looking forward to reading your review and hearing your thoughts about this movie Dolce :razz:.

Oopsa, whagt a giveaway....are the last two pictures of the same person?

He's either become a zombie or, by the look in his eyes, is posing as one so as to hide himself. :-k

But yeah, bring on the talkie!!!! Part of my theory is that I'm actually going to enjoy the zombies as they get smarter, since I found the "memory" issue in Dawn to be far more intriguing and suspensful.

Also, from hearing you guys talk about it, I have a haunting suspicion Romero had Kaspar Hauser (and some French Wild Child whose name I don't know) in mind when writing Day of the Dead. Which I am going to love if my suspicion is confirmed.

Can't wait.

I have some errands to run and then I'm off to rent it!

Hey, I dug these up on-line quickly because I thought you might find them interesting having already seen Day of the Dead. When you mentioned the doctor teaching the zombie, this is the first stuff that popped into my mind. Let me know if it strikes a chord with you too, since you know all about Day.

The entire second half of that movie was so disgusting!

I feel a bit queezy right now just through osmosis from pictures of the screen, since I had my hands over my eyes quite a bit of the time. 8-[

disgusting in a good way? ;) hehe i told ya the last part is pound for pound one of the most violent movies ever :)

Yes. Right since her bf goes nuts the second time and gets his arm bitten into. From then on, its downhill. Oh lord I was so happy I was alone in that room or I would have had to bury my eyes into someone's shoulder.

Pretty good movie actually. I still liked it better than Night of the Living Dead. I definately can predict where this is going for Land, and I am excited by it. He doesn't do the"the same old thing" with each installment. Romero picks more and more challenging (and sometimes subtle) topics to probe against the back-drop of the invading army.

The fact that the violence becomes more explicit, as does the language, isn't problematic, though it does make the movies harder to sit through. God I wanted to kill half the humans about as much as the zombies. Which I'm sure was the point.

Another point...notice how in all three a woman and balck man are the only people that manage to emotionally and physically survive the experience?

yeah, romero has been asked that in interviews and he said he never really intentionally meant to have a black lead cast member in all 3 movies. he just chose the best actor for the part.

i love the part when captain rhodes finally snaps after seeing his men in the cooler that frankenstein had been using for his experiments "THOSE ARE MY MEN IN THERE!!!"

and i love how he and his other buddies rickles, torres and steele get their comeuppance at the end. and the funny part is, rhodes was still an asshole even after got torn in half..."Ch....CHOKE ON 'EM!! CHOKE ON EM!"

I'm actually surprised about that. When Rhodes points the gun at the other guy's head and tells him to shoot, I thought the other guy was going to have a change of mind about the entire situation. The guards came off a bit too unruly and chuavanistic, considering I was expecting them to snap under the pressure and claustophobia of the bunker. It was a back reference to the television fight from Dawn of the Dead, only heightened due to the length of time and surroundings. So I knew they wouldn't be able to hold themselves together, but I thought in the gun-off they would be susceptiable to other leaders. Namely, the medical team.

And the scene were Bub listens to music, and rubs everything on his face when checking them out. Has Romero ever mentioned a source for it? I'm sure I'm forcing the analogy, but it definately felt like feral children experiments...which always straddled the line of propriety and necessity, etc.

God, Romero really relished showing each guard get dug into one guy at a time. And also when the zombie break loose from the lab table and has his innards fall out in the beginning. :shock:

i've never heard romero mention any kind of source for the Bub scene. And yeah, i knew the innards scene would get ya ;)

i felt so bad for Bub when he broke loose from his chains and wanted to show Dr. Logan but then he realized he was dead.
