Anyone heard anything about Funny Ha Ha?
Supposed to be a post-college dramady. It looks pretty decent from reading up on it, but I've only seen the synopsis over at rt.
Quote:
When you graduate college you easily sashay into the world of adulthood, start a career, and get serious, right? Wrong. Marnie has left college, but not her drinking habits and her bad taste in bad men. What's more, Marnie can’t seem to find a permanent job. It would be sad if it weren’t so funny.
Seems like it's got a good tone, though I hesittate to endores this recent trend towards cynicism when dealing with serious topics if used to create distance. I guess it can feel monotone after awhile, though less so in a 90 minute movie than an entire book, and often it is used wrong. I don't like when the cynicism doesn't go anywhere, and just pokes fun instead of making light. Have to laugh first and cry later, if the crying part is missing, something is wrong.
Anyways, the director, Andrew Bujalski, is a Boston Buy. Nice to see Boston getting bigger and bigger in the movie scene. We can thank Brad Anderson and Matt&Ben for that I guess.
I'd like to see more work out of Boston, so I hope this movie really takes off.
