The offbeat saga of a contemporary remixer "It's All Gone Pete Tong" - named best Canadian film at the Toronto fest - bowed on a single New York screen with a tuneful $18,800. It will open in Los Angeles on 4/29, and then expand to top 24 markets on 5/13. http://www.itsallgonepetetong.com/ Despite of mostly bad reviews, Lions Gate's "House of D," David Duchovny's first foray as a helmer, picked up a good $30,000 from its first two screens. The coming-of-age tale stars Duchovny, Tea Leoni, Robin Williams and Erykah Badu. However, because of mostly bad reviews, this movie won't likely to gross more than $600,000 in US theaters. It will do better in home-video market, though. Lions Gate also released gangster yarn "State Property 2" on 202 screens and saw results of $1.1 million, with $750,000 coming during the three-day span. In US theaters, "State Property 2" should gross more than "State Property" (which grossed $2.1 million), and then enjoy even better success in ancillary markets. Todd Solondz's "Palindromes" get disappointed $59,000 b.o. from seven engagements. Since it opened on Wednesday in two theaters , pic has taken in $72,234. Because of mixed reviews, it will be lucky to gross more than $400,000. Although disappointment is Fine Line's "The Year of the Yao" which grosses $26,000 from 12 Houston theaters. "Kung Fu Hustle" has legs! In its second week, pic collected $264,043 from 7 theaters, down just 10% from its opening, and averaged $37,720 per screen. On 4/22, it will expand to 2,000+ theaters. "Look at Me" also has strong leg; now in its third weekend, this movie grossed $149,677 from 25 screens, averaging $5,987 and pushing cume to $401,542. Samuel Goldwyn/Roadside Attractions' "Walk on Water" crossed the $1 million mark in its seventh weekend with $128,250 from 45 screens, for an average of $2,850. Cume is $1,044,832. This movie can gross more than $1 million is a very big surprise for me, because of the mixed reviews it receives. Playing 80 screens, Thinkfilm's Oscar winning doc "Born Into Brothels" grossed $102,956 this weekend and passed $3 million mark. Source: Variety, moviecitynews.com |

Tough to see it open to 72,234 in two theatres but then plumet to 59,000 in seven. Its about a 13 year old that wants to have many kids though, so I never anticipated it being huge breakthrough. It was recevied mized reviews too. Quote: Although disappointment is Fine Line's "The Year of the Yao" which grosses $26,000 from 12 Houston theaters. Quote: "Kung Fu Hustle" has legs!
