Post subject: | NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD! This Weekend *12 Members* |
Ok, after careful deliberation we've decided to go ahead this weekend March 11-13 and do a *Night of the Living Dead* (original 1968 version) viewing this upcoming weekend. We leave it open for the weekend because I know not everyone can watch it one particular night. All anticipation (of which I have alot) and commentary after viewing goes into this thread. Let me begin by saying I have been officially warned I'll actually be scared. ![]() I was a bit freaked out when we watched Suspiria (1st *World* Horror Weekend) but the ending was clean enough that I wasn't worried by then. So what's the deal? Is this open ended? Am I going to fear after sunset? ![]() Who's in this weekend to share in my ability to freak myself out over nothing? It takes me months (actually since Suspiria) to work up the courage to watch an official horror movie, so I'm finally ready again. \:D/ *Members Participating* makeshift torrino roguecommander dolcevita jb007 terminator1997 Kypade jenniferofthejungle Mr. X gardenia.11/14... Yeah, so i'm really excited for this. I'm hesitant to tell you anything about the ending, Galia. It's quite the corker, and best seen with no prior knowledge. Like I said in the earlier thread, anyone who wants to do this with Galia and I should track down either of the Elite Entertainment DVD releases. Here's the covers for both: ![]() ![]() I recommend those above any other releases of the film (and there are a lot of them) because Elite really cleaned up the print and made the film look beautiful again. |

Didn't FOX also clean it up when they colorized it (what. the. fuck. ugh). I thought they made a restored B&W version, too. You guys can watch it online. Legally. If you've got the bandwith. It works for some people (me) and doesn't work for others (Lecter), but it's worth a try if you can't get out of the house. Can I watch this Sunday night since Friday's a time to sleep...early (SATs) and Saturday is, of course, relief - teen style. |

*gasp* by teen-style do you mean drinking? tsk tsk. Anyhow...I'm getting confused. I was going to look for Elite like Ashton said, but is it originally a B&W movie? Should I be looking for a B&W or Color version. If FOX colorized it did they edit it too? I want to get the version that is most like the release, except for maybe directors cut if you think that is good? But if it was intended to be B&W I should see it that way right? Colorizing ala technicolor of paint-in can be disconcerting if not intentional, and often not the intent of the director. I know Hitchcock did Psycho in black and white intentionally because he considered the bathtub scene to be over-the-top in color. Don't worry about me not knowing the ending ahead of time, I don't even know the premesis of the movie to begin with! I have made the decision to watch it in the middle of the day, that way it gives me until evening to recover if I get paranoid. ![]() |

If I'm sitting in a desk for four hours, screwing up an otherwise good record with every pencil mark, I better be doing something worthwhile that night... dolcevita wrote: Anyhow...I'm getting confused. I know Hitchcock did Psycho in black and white intentionally because he considered the bathtub scene to be over-the-top in color. Night of the Living Dead was originally Black and White. Because no one owns a copyright to the film (public domain), FOX (like they did with Reefer Madness) took the release and colorized it. Although, had Romero had the money, NOTLD probably would have been color in the first place. Stick with the B&W version. I was asking makeshift about FOX's B&W (the dvd has both a B&W and color version) transfer, as it's the latest (released in August, I think) and it was supposedly cleaned up... |

Galia.... Get the B&W version. Romero shot it that way, so i'm assuming that would look the best. Ross... I haven't heard anything about Fox's release, actually. I'm assuming that Elite's transfer is still better since they used THX labs, but i'm not sure. I would just stick with either of the Elite releases. The Fox one would probably do, though, if you couldn't find any of the Elite versions. On another note, stay away from Anchor Bay's version. It has new material edited into the film that just doesn't fit at all in my opinion. The edges are cropped, too. |

I have a NOTLD dvd. I used to get a magazine called "Total Movie" (lol. airline miles. it was filler) and it'd come with a free dvd each month (of course, it never came each month). NOTLD was one of 'em. So I'll just use that. The transfer isn't great, but it'll do. |

I think maybe I will watch it sunday afternoon, to coincide a bit with torri! I also have class at and sunday morning, so by sunday afternoon I'd like to kick back, relax, and freak myself out! I will get black and white elite version. is there a minute length i should be looking out for to make sure i don't get an editted version? Are lecter, jen, and zingy in? |

Both of the Elite versions are uncut, so that shouldn't be a problem. I'll probably watch it sometime Sunday, too, but probably at night. |

I'll try and watch it on Friday, since I'll still be in bed probably from my surgery. Sounds like fun everyone. I've already seen Dawn of the Dead, and I guess after this I'll see Day of the Dead (and then of course Land of the Dead). |

Awsome! Welcome Rogue! You weren't really active when we did the first one, Suspiria, we're going to make this into a "everytime-dolce-gets-up-the-nerves-semi-annual event! Get psyched! I'm editting the list into the first post! \:D/ |

i'll definitely do it. i prefer the b & w version, somehow a color version just wouldn't seem right to me. |

@ termi - Thanks for the input termi, that's what I got the feeling when torri mentioned FOX and VERSION in the same sentence. I take it you've already seen it, don't slip up on the ending for me. I'm sticking to the black and white. Things that were filmed in black and white often take shodow rather than *duh* color into consideration, so you can miss alot if that isn't the emphasis anymore. Welcome....we already have more people this time round than we did for Argento. @ jb - I haven't, but forum members are doing their best to give me a bit of an introduction. |

One of those underrated 80's horror movies that seems to slip under the radar. |

I saw the next film in the series so I guess this would be a good one to see next (they really aren't connected from what I can tell though). |

Oh excellent Rogue. You haven't seen it either? That makes at least three! Thats better than the last time around. I hadn't realized there were sequals to this. Are they any good? Or just generic spin-offs? This isn't going to be graffic like Zombie is it? I've heard stories about the drawn out part with the spike from the grate slowly going through the zombie's eye for, like, 15 minutes. *shudders* Is this scary jump out of your seat or is it just really grotesque? |

I only saw Dawn of the Dead and that was somewhat gruesome. It wasn't too terrible because remember these films are quite dated. The most gruesome scene in that was when the zombies attacked the motercycle gang. That was well, graphic to say the least. |

Actually the rights to the film are not owned by any person, so it is actually legal to view a streamed copy. Where to get it though I do not know. |
