Can be summed up in five words: "All about sex and death. Oh, and the search for meaning in a godless world." Ok, maybe that was more than five. |

I have only seen 2 of his movies and then very recently so that they're still fresh in my mind. The Seventh Seal was so great but Smiles of a Summer Night truly impressed me. It's so funny and poetic. |

I think The Silence might be one of the best films I've seen. Ever. It's a lot like Last Year at Marienbad. And we all know how much I loved that one. |

If I want to start watching Bergman's films...which film is best recommended for the start? |

Smiles of a Summer Night is probably a good start. It's one of his earlier ones, and it's light and comic enough not to turn you off immediately, and yet it's still rather brilliant. Of course, you could go right for the throat and start with The Seventh Seal. Can't go wrong with that one. |
