Watch de Sica's Miracle in Milan. Its one of my favorites and also does not exactly end in sadness. Aside from having a bit of snarky humor in some movies (like Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow), De Sica has a bit of a romantic streak in him too, for sure, and surfaces in Miracle along side the class commentary, etc.
