Post Hey Euros, what's the scoop on Schultze gets the Blues?
Just saw the trailer for Shultze gets the Blues. A German movie about a man who is laid off early from working in the salt mines, begins playing accordian and ends up winning a trip to the Bayou to play his accordian in America. I guess he is influenced by blues music or blue grass if I think I get the title. Its about a lonely man who doesn't know how to handle retirement but finds himself in small town USA with a love of music? Right now there are only 5 reviews in at RT and its at 80%. One reviewer compared it to The Stright Story (Lynch people everywhere drool), however that's the one guy who didn't like it. $10 he didn't like Story either. Others say its very pased but wirth the wait for insight into growing old. Looks kind of quiet, but I wanted to know if anyone has seen it yet since it won a few awards in several film festivals.

I liked The Straight Story quite a bit. Shultze gets the Blues looks really stupid, though. No way I'm gonna spend my money on it.

Oh, I don't know, it depends on how music oriented it is, or if it ends up just being, as you say, a cute story. I haven't seem Straight Story and don't know what it is about, but I do know that there have been several movies about cross-cultural music exchange such as 1999's Ghengis Blues, about a San Fransican musician of Cape Verdean descent who travels to central Asia to learn throat singing (its odd, I've heard it, and its basically a multiple humming noise coming from one person who can sing multiple notes at the same time). It's too bad you can't tell me if Schultze has alot to do with mixing traditional Polka music (now seeing a revival in the US) with Cajun music. I think that would make for a very interesting movie on that level. Anything else anyone has heard of it?
