Post subject:  Watch Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" on AMC tonight!
Sure, AMC is no longer "American Movie Classics", with films like Scream 2 and I Know What You Did Last Summer. But, hey! If they're showing Pulp Fiction, EVEN IF IT'S EDITED, I don't care.

Expect a very very edited, fool-screen version of the film, but enough content to allow for a taste of Tarantino's style of dialogue, etc.

It's on at 10:15, EST. If you haven't seen it already, and you don't mind seeing an edited version, or, if you just wanna bring back the memories, tune into what has become the crappiest channel on TV (well...movie channel, besides USA) tonight!

Not that I live in the USA, so ot doesn't matter...but as a matter of fact, I'd NEVER volutary watch a cut movie.

Man I thought Pulp was so overrated. Jackie Brown...now THAT was a good movie.

Maybe it was overrated, but I don't think you can deny that it's sooooo entertaining.

I watched the edited version a bit though, and it seemed to drag on in length. Maybe the 50 or so uses of the "n-word" keeps the movie going when it's bad...

I thought I was the only person on earth with that opinion!

I think that Pulp Fiction is a decent, yet an immensly overrated movie. The characters are mostly good and the diallogues, well, they are great, as you'd expect of Tarantino. But the movie in whole just didn't click with me. I thought it was too long and tried too hard to be cool sometimes.

As for Jackie Brown, I LOVE this movie and I consider it on par with Kill Bill as Tarantino's best. The characters were not a single bit worse than in Pulp Fiction and the movie was just so...cool. I don't even know how to put it in words, but I truly enjoyed this movie and honestly, despite all, I think that Sam L Jackson's role in Jackie Brown was way better than in Pulp Fiction.

BONUS! Thank-you. i have no idea how Jackie Brown ended up being his most quiet film. even From Dusk 'til Dawn got more mileage. But perhaps its because it was a more subtle film that it didn't develop instant fandom?

Actually everyone's discussions around the dialogue of Pulp is my issue. I actually don't think it was that good. There were some nice juxtapositions and interesting passages, but on the whole its like what Torri said....Take out the swearing and you just got some really, in desperate need of editing, scenes. The entire Uma revival scene should have been 5 minutes. I think just because you shoot someone while preaching there still needs to be an interesting story around shotting that person. There kinda wasn't. One was supposed to dwell on Ezekial and the gun (multiple times may I add...so it really wore thin quickly). Only problem is, you're much less likely to care where/at whom that gun is pointed at, and have any investment in the scene's outcome, if the story hasn't been built up well.

If I wanted to reflect on the colourful language of the prophets alone, I would have just picked up the King James.

I agree, it relies a bit too much on the cursing. Still I am very appreciative of Tarantino's dialogues in each of his movies. I am sad that Jackie Brown went as unnoticed as it did. I do think that it is better than Reservoir Dogs, the characters were just so good, especially Robbie Ordell (Samuel L. Jackson) and Jackie Brown (Pam Grier).

I guess we just have to agree to disagree. :) To me, Pulp Fiction has the most ingenious dialog I've ever seen. There are a lot more than just the swearing. They are killers, but it's their professional job, so they go to work just any of us do, having casual conversations, so it feels very natural. What other movies could you find characters talking about fast food in Paris and foot massage before killing people, but those are probably some of the subjects professional killers do chat about in real life.

Xia, i understand what you're saying, but I wouldn't watch a movie just about people going to work unless there was some kind of plot either. Office Space for example (which I didn't love, but its a good example) the movie isn't just about them sitting in their cubicles grumbling, they also try to scam company money and things go wrong. There is a love interest, etc. The issue with Pulp is just that, it was too much about the banality of the language and situations. And that, taken alone, kinda gets boring after awhile. Something didn't in particular happen, no sympathy was created for any of the characters, I didn't care one way or another what happened to them, so the movie didn't keep me going.

I have my suspicions that the whole John/Uma scenario is based off of the earlier Gilda...but Gilda kind of made you wonder about the characters pasts, future, etc. here' you were just like, meh...Dusty Springfield is playing the background, and Uma O.D.s.

I don't even need to read everyone's reply on this one.. Yeah, I caught some of PULP FICTION to on the AMC Channel and my $1,000,000 Question of the day is this: If I pay for Cable or Satellite on a monthly basis, if I'm paying for all these channels, then why not show this movie uncut and in it's entirety??? I mean, I'm paying for the monthly service, right?? Hell, part of the goddamn appeal to this movie was the overabundant use of the "F" word and how great it went within the context of the movie, but goddamn it all if AMC didn't ruin this film.... :roll:

Jackie Brown is FANTASTIC. Way underated. But still, I like Pulp and Jackie a little equally. But of course the Kill Bill fanboy in me is saying KB is my favorite Quentin movie. :P

Now, Reservoir Dogs is good, but overrated.

Reputation of the company of course. The abundant use of the "n-word" could be taken seriously by some (and the FCC), whether or not the channel is on cable networks or not.

I agree, however, that films shouldn't be edited (in ANY sitatuon/case! lol).
