Anyone seen this Italian movie. It's a little slow in a couple of parts but really gets great towards the end of the main character's early childhood into his teenage years.

I used to cry puddles during the spliced together kissing scene at the end.

Which cut did you see? I never saw Nuovo, but apparently it had a much more bitter edge than the earlier release. I don't know how I would have felt about the bitterness. On one hand, the feel of the movie is nostalgic and I'm used to that concludion. On the other, I could see how it plays off the expectations and hope of youth against the mundane, washed up midlife crisis.

I'm pretty sure I saw Nuovo. Is it shorter or longer than the regular version?

Nuovo is longer. in the 89 release the end, which is far more bitter, was cut off because producers/distributors didn't like it. The version I'm familiar with, prior to the Nuovo which I think came out two years ago, and right with Salvatore crying over the the spliced kisses. I'm not sure about the smaller changes throughout, but the big one is that there are a good couple minutes after that scene where he gets up the next day and returns to his horribly boring life. If you saw one with fottage after he cries, you saw Nuovo, so please let me know what you thought of the ending, as I haven't seen it and am eager to hear. Why'd you like Paradiso so much?

Oh, then I saw the original. Where he starts to cry because of the film that Alfredo left him. That ending was great, sounds a lot better than the one you describe with him waking up again. I've heard of another ending where he sees the girl he had loved as a teenager as an older woman.

I just love the relationship between Alfredo and Toto. Their chemistry together is what makes the movie great.
