Chris Cunningham's "Rubber Johnny"
Anyone heard of this yet? It's Chris Cunningham's new short film that's coming out on DVD this month. Chris Cunningham, for those of that don't know, has quite a large cult following due to his nightmarish music videos. He was the man responsibile for Aphex Twin's "Come To Daddy" video. You know, the "iiiiiiiiii will eat your soooouuuuullllll" song. I think we all have this image permanently burned into our minds, or at least those of us who used to watch MTv really late at night sometime in '97:
He also directed another Apex Twin video called "Windowlicker". You know, the one with all of the women that have the exact same face:
And, of course, the uber-famous and iconic Bjork video, "All Is Full Of Love":
Anywho, Rubber Johnny has received quite abit of buzz the last couple of months, mainly because of the name attached to it, but also because of the ridiculously scary teaser trailer which can be found here:

The plot summary goes something like this:
"'Rubber Johnny' is an abstract and emotionally charged short film, that manages to be simultaneously humourous and dark as it catalogues the limited world of the socially abandoned son of a redneck, TV addicted couple. The 16 year-old spends every day of his pathetic existence locked in the pitch black basement, beneath the family home. To relay the verity of a life lived in darkness, the film was shot entirely in infrared DV.
Cunningham has given the pitiable teen a few other notable problems to deal with too, namely he's an inbred mutant who can seemingly shape-shift at will. He also who happens to be a totally insane imbecile, with his small dog, and only companion, having been blessed with far greater intellegence. So with very little happening by way of stimulus around him, the film deals with Johnny's inner world, and what there is of it."
So, yeah, i'm excited to see this thing. Cunningham hasn't done anything in awhile, so it should be interesting to see if he can pick up right where he left off with the ultra-disturbing imagery. I can't wait to see what he does with a big budget and a feature length film, which is apparently in the cards. This man was born to direct a horror film.
