Felicity Huffman (Lynette of Desperate Housewives) just won Best Actress at the Tribeca Film Festival for her performance in Transamerica playing a...transsexual.

Here's the synopsis:
A pre-operative transsexual woman and an adolescent male hustler take a road trip from New York City to Los Angeles after the woman bails him out of jail. The two embark on an unexpected journey, but she fails to divulge her secret...that she is his biological father.

The movie sounds very...interesting. I've always thought Huffman was a great actress, although she is given the shaft by playing Desperate Housewives' least interesting character.

I saw a clip of this on Regis and Kelly earlier this week or last week. (can't remember exactly) She also claimed that all the fighting between the Housewives was not true. She said she had to lower her voice for the part. From the clip that I saw, she was a believable transsexual, too.

Well the first question to come to mind is how they knew eachother beforehand?

I wonder if Transamerica got anything at Tribeca outside of acting awards, as it looks like the strength of the film already. Saw the picture at the yahoo link, and it looks like a very tonal movie. I like "Road trip" movies lately, though for some reason this one already reminds me of Priscilla but heavy-handed. I've never heard of the actress, is she any good in Housewives?

She's very good in Desperate Housewives, but Libs hates her. She also had a ongoing role on Frasier for a bit. (I hated her in that)

She was also in the brilliant but cancelled sitcom Sports Night.

See, I hate Lynette, but I think Huffman is great. Part of the reason I'm so frustrated by that character is that Huffman is quite possibly the most talented of the four actresses, but her character is such a harpy that you can never see it.

Oops...I should have been clearer that it was not Felicity Huffman you hated, just the Lynette character. Wouldn't you rather have one character in the show that you can wish bad things on? I know that you had to be loving her turmoil in the last episode, because of her husband hiring his ex and not telling her for months that he had.
