We haven't had the 2024 Oscars yet but with Dune 2's imminent release it feels like we have a possible best picture frontrunner. The last film had 6 wins from 10 nominations. The move away from Oppenheimer's year seems incredibly smart in hindsight from an awards perspective as it was "Nolan's" year. Is Dune unstoppable? Is this going to be the first Q1 Oscar winner for Best picture in 33 years (since Silence of the Lambs)? Mickey 17 shifting could push it out of contention this year but Joker 2, Horizon, Gladiator 2, etc. still in the running... |

It’ll get nominated but way too early to predict a win. |

I guess it was limited but technically EEAAO came out end of March. I'm not convinced Dune will win BP unless we have a really weak year. But I guess I have to see it first. |

Dune II winning isn't impossible but sequel+genre bias is hard to overcome Best Actor frontrunner is Chalamet playing Bob Dylan Blitz (WWII drama) directed by Steve McQueen starring Ronan probably is the frontrunner on paper, especially since they haven't given a black director win yet, but something about McQueen's career outside of 12YAS makes me not totally trust him. Guadagnino has two movies in Challengers and a gay period piece with Daniel Craig called Queers I found that Cuaron's next movie is supposed to be about Philip K Dick starring Theron as a his alt timeline newborn sister if she survived. But I assume there's a decent chance of it not being 2024. Otherwise I'd put that #1 since Cuaron like Scorsese and Nolan this year is pretty unlikely to miss quality wise. |

Way too early to tell, but I suppose that is the fun of it all. Is the Critic suppose to release this year? |

I don't think Dune II will win if they greenlight the third movie before Oscar season. It will be viewed as a middle chapter and they will probably choose to hold off on BP until the third movie, just like they did with Lord of the Rings despite Two Towers being more acclaimed and bigger than Fellowship. |

Dune Messiah isn't exactly a rousing ending to the trilogy and I think it will have mixedish wom similiar to Dune Part One. If they wanna award Dune then its gotta be this year when the film is (mostly) crowd-pleasing and competition will be weak. Villeneuve better at least get a directors nomination this time lol. |

I think Dune 2 is the best shot. Offcourse, a bunch of contenders will emerge late in the year but Dune 2 will be a nominations beast. |

I just read that Colman Domingo is playing MJ's father in the Jackson movie. He earned alot of fans during this campaign season so could see him be a major contender at the 2026 Oscars for supporting male actor. If The Fall Guy ends up being good maybe Ryan or Blunt can also make a return next year. |

Flava'd vs The World wrote: zwackerm wrote: That MJ movie is gonna be bad so no Oscar’s for it True but the movie is gonna get ripped by critics for making a pedo sympathetic which is way worse than just making an incredibly generic queen biopic. |

Zendaya (185M IG followers) vs Gaga (57M)! Think Gaga should go for supporting based on the buzz on Zendaya's performance so far. |

Feel like Cage for supporting is going to be compelling, at least for a nomination. Wouldn't be surprised to see nostalgia play a big role next Oscars with Penn/Robert/Tom Hanks doing a reunion, SNL 50, etc. Let's make a wild prediction now and say Cage or Hanks will win the Oscar. |

He's just been cast as John Madden for David O'Russell's next film so seems he's going to get back to the Oscars eventually. |

There is a movie at Venice film fest called the Brutalist that was off our radar for the draft that apparently has career best level performances for Adrien Brody and Guy Pearce and has 87 MC Quote: When visionary architect László Toth and his wife Erzsébet flee post-war Europe in 1947 to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of modern America, their lives are changed forever by a mysterious and wealthy client. Pearce deserves a supporting nomination for being our backup Pitt for all these years |

Was funny reading all the extravagent praise for Saturday Night and how it was gonna be a major oscar player only to see it pop up on metacritic with a 65. ![]() |

I like that everyone is trying so desperately to find a new frontrunner right now. If Dune was in full control then it'd be get nitpicked to death right now but instead people keep championing these festival flicks that inevitably underwhelm others. By January they should be coming around to "maybe we should just make it the Denis' year." Would it be such a bad thing to have 3 winners in a row that people actually watched? |

I think it loses in the end if it’s a Power of the Dog or Killers of the Flower Moon of this year that’s acclaimed but 3.5 and bores some people but The Brutalist may still be too strong to let someone draft it. Will wait to after Toronto fest to see if we can get a credible 2-5 of new movies so everyone gets one. |
