I assume KOFM peaks in critics awards Charles Melton’s name sounded like a 60 year old British character actor, but it’s actually the guy who played Reggie in Riverdale |

Critics awards always feel like they are competing with each other over who are the most smartest and most coolest movie reviewers. |

Supporting Actress Oscar can go to a white person if it's a longtime character actress like JLC, Dern, Janney, etc. otherwise they’re picking the top black/minority performance they can find like Da’Vine Joy Randolph (or one of the Color Purple girls if they pass her). No Kerry Condon type winners going forward of white+relatively unknown. Blunt like Dunst is a vet in her prime but I don’t think that’s enough to get them in the JLC/Dern camp. |

The Color Purple is missing everything. Probably headed for weak reviews. |

That AFI top 10 looks like a solid BP lineup. Color Purple will probably get in instead of Spiderverse unless reviews are bad. |

Rachel McAdams is getting in a lot of places. Well-deserved. She's wonderful in Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. |

Glazer and The Zone of interest seems locked for BD/BP moms noms after winning LAFCA. Quick glance at the Holocaust premise and this is the type of film right up the academy's alley. |

Stone got much needed big win in LA to challenge Gladstone, but it looks like half of it was that they wanted to prove a point by putting Gladstone in supporting St Louis is probably the group that just tries to predict the Oscars as much as possible Anatomy of a Fall would be my pick for the unexpected international director nom this year like Triangle of Sadness/Drive My Car/Another Round. There is competition for that spot though in Zone of Interest which from the Under the Skin guy seems like it might be too cold and arty to get in BP but maybe that makes it perfect for the directors to go out on a limb for, and Past Lives while not a true international movie kind of fits in spirit. |

It feels wrong for Barbie to be in serious contention as a Best Picture nominee. If you remove the hype, it's a passable high budget Hollywood fantasy comedy like they used to release in the 90s and early 2000s. Some corporate feminist claptrap babble ham-fistedly inserted into it does not make it high art. It's closer to being the female Bruce Almighty than the female Forrest Gump. |

American Fiction is getting a lot of steady interest. It was the TIFF audience award winner too so curious how it does once it gets released wide. Dark horse potential? |
