One positive for Joker is its leftie message could have some legs for voters. Michael Moore jizzed over it

In terms of nominations...stream of consciousness here....

Us will get Best Picture and Best Writing noms although it won't deserve a win IMO. Same with Once Upon a Time (Writing).

Hearing good things about Parasite and Farewell - Best Picture nom

I'm sure Ad Astra will get a few (Actor, Picture, Sound noms)

Toy Story 4 is a lock to win Best Animated (and will get a nom for Best Picture)

The Dolemite Movie could give Eddie Murphy his first Best Actor win.

Last Black Man in San Francisco is a lock I think for a Best Film nom

Parasite has a very, very good shot.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood has been banned in China for the Bruce Lee scene. Not exactly a difficult task these days, but it does show that Bruce Lee’s daughter is not gonna go away, and probably will make an impassioned plea to the academy as well.

So yeah, we could end up with an #OscarsHateAsians controversy in the same year that Bong Joo Hun, Constance Wu and Awkwafina are all nominated.

Sad that people don’t employ critical thinking

I really don't think it will come to that. If anything, Parasite getting big noms (looking likely) and one of Constance Wu or Awkwafina getting nominated will quell any "Oscars hate Asians" nonsense.

Besides, it's not like they portrayed MLK as a buffoon. Bruce Lee isn't a modern-day saint or martyr, I don't think it matters that much.

I understand the controversy... but also.. it's very annoying. The guy who portrayed him thinks of Lee as an IDOL. If he was fine with the portrayal, it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

I thought Parasite had reached frontrunner status with its big first two weeks, but the odds I'm seeing still have it at 17-1, the same as Knives Out. Whoever is taking these bets is banking on a Netflix win.

The Irishman 4.5-1
Marriage Story 5-1
Joker 6-1
Hollywood 8-1
Jojo 9-1
Waves 9-1 (haven't even heard of this one)
1917, Beautiful Day, Just Mercy - 11-1

Bombshell at 26-1 is also very intriguing. I've never bet on these awards but those sure are tempting.

Also

Actor - Phoenix is 1.5-1
Zellwegger - 1.83-1
Last person on In Memorian - Franco Zefferilli 4-1
Will the best actress winner drop her Oscar on stage? No is 1-1
Same movie winning director and picture? No 1.65-1
Wrong Winner announced - No 1-1

After watching Judy I'm not so sure Renee is 100% guaranteed a win. It would be a great comeback narrative, but the performance did scream 'I WANT AN OSCAR' in a really obvious way, and the movie isn't anything we haven't seen before. Bombshell may end up being a more exciting choice and Charlize has remained much more relevant than Zellwegger through the years.

Wait, is there a site you can for real bet on the Oscars? I think I’d like to place a long shot bet and collect some tuition money in February.

I think a Frozen song would have the edge. Or maybe the T Swift song from Cats.

I think Frozen might still win the song because of the good will from last time. Thus far there isn't anything else that sounds in competition. I still can't forget the Sam Smith win for Spectre....ugh
