Chris Rock. The pressure was on. Did he return to his 1994 former glory? Did he do well for a fifty year old millionaire? Did he tank? Or worse, was he completely forgettable? |

C+. I laughed a few times. The opening monologue became exasperating after awhile. He was funnier in...2004? The ceremony where Sean Penn furiously called him out for lampooning Jude Law's prolific year. |

I give him a B maybe a B+. He was much better than Neil Patrick Harris last year who was probably one of the worst hosts besides Franco and Hathaway. |

He was great given the circumstances. He got his - and the industry got theirs. He kept his scoff face on all night and made enough dismissive jokes to show how he felt (the Stacy Dash moment was rich). He also cracked enough 'all-ages' funnies to keep the show moving. He would have been criticized if he had aggressively attacked the industry or said nothing... this was a good balance. |

I gave him a B-. His topic was reverent this time around, but it got repetitive after a while. But the jokes that worked really worked, but it went on for a little too long with the same topic. The Girl Scout cookie thing was a clear copy of the Ellen Pizza gag, and the movie theater skit was a copy of his own White Chick skit he did the last time. Still, kudos for him to bring light to the controversy. Not bad, some good moments, but still needed some work. |

C-. One of my least favorite hosting jobs in a while. He wasn't that funny, some of his attempts like the interview segment and girl scout cookies were pulled from last gig or Ellen, and he had a few big time bombs. A white person would have gotten killed for that hosting |

Grade - B I liked his opening and I even liked the skit with Whoopi and the whole Suge Knight bit. I wasn't a fan of the Girl Scout bit or the sorority racism joke. The Stacey Dash bit was bleh though I did hear her explain it on Ingraham and it made sense then but it just wasn't necessary. Other than that, what else did he do really besides mispronounce Charlize's name and say "We're black" when coming back from a commercial. |

Serviceable, but in no way memorable. Though I understand why he couldn't attack the Academy (they hired him after all) not doing so really neutered him from a stand-up view. I think if 1996 Chris Rock somehow traveled through time and saw himself performing, he'd run upstage and slap his twenty year elder in the face and then go swim in all his money. The Girl Scout cookie bit felt like a carbon copy of Ellen's pizza bit. I did like when he went to the Compton movie theater though, even if he apparently did that bit in one of his prior Oscar gigs.
