Weird they'd pick MM but not Miller. Interesting choices though! |

Were they high when they were voting? That's the only way MM can win anything. |

It's worth noting NBR are notorious whores for Warner Bros. movies. Still bodes well for Mad Max though. |

So, after A Most Violent Year last year they thought "Fuck that shit, gonna go for blockbusters this year!"? |

I just noticed a total zero mentions for Carol. Last year they shut out Whiplash, Foxcatcher and The Theory of Everything completely. |

^ Same goes for Brooklyn, The Revenant and Joy. Just for comparison, NBR matched with Oscar 4/8 last year, and 4/9 the year before. |

A lot of male-oriented, high testosterone movies in that list. |

So the last time a film missed NBR top 10 and still won BP at Oscars was ROTK, before that A Beautiful Mind; that's it since 1990. That spells good news for Spotlight given the major contenders that missed out (The Revenant, Joy, Carol). |

Can we completely rule out The Martian winning BP? I mean Gravity would have won had it not been up against a movie with a very very important message. |

The Martian seems like a much likelier candidate to win Director for Ridley Scott than Picture, but something has to be considered a challenger to Spotlight. |

Mad Max for BP nomination is a thing. Warner Bros. doesn't have a lot of options. Heck Miller has a decent chance at making director too I don't think NBR means a great deal, but Stallone might honestly win Best Supporting. Why not? |

Heck Miller has a decent chance at making director too They have Creed and In the Heart of the Sea, which are much more likely to get a nomination for BP than Fury Road, right? I don't know, but Mad Max just feels too long ago and not very Oscar-y. But I think Stallone is now guaranteed a spot for Best Supporting Actor, and in my opinion, also the underdog front-runner for the win. |

Two years in a row where they actually pick the best movie of the year? I might die. |

Nice of them to give Mad Max a little bit of life. The Martian is going to get in. It's too much of a crowd pleasing sci fi film and it gets Ridley showing up. |
