A week ago, I wouldn't have thought that this really had a chance to win anything...seemed as one of those "lucky to be nominated" films, but now the perfect storm is building up. Could it win 3-4 Oscars? I am thinking both Sound awards, Editing and either Cooper or Screenplay maybe? |

It better not beat Boyhood. The only contender in Actor I've seen is Redmayne and I don't think Cooper has ability yet to pull that off, so it would be a tragedy if American Sniper went home with awards. At least Linklater will surely take home the prize since Clint ain't nominated. |

I don't see American Sniper as a strong contender for anything if what David feels about the film is in fact true. I think he has a good eye for what's good and what's bad. It probably just got nominated due to patriotism or for the lack of anything better. |

Haven't seen the movie yet but I would be more than happy if this takes away the BP award from Boyhood. I like Cooper too, so I wouldn't mind a win for him either. |

I think it's drawing dead for major awards. The nominations will be seen as award enough. Could win a sound or two, but wouldn't be surprised if it won 0. |

Also think I read somewhere before that 75% of the ballots are turned in the first week or so, so American Sniper is really in a position to maximize its awards potential. I still don't think even at that maximum, it can win best picture, but a Cooper win is fully in play. |

Yeah, this should take both Sound awards easily, and I'm tempted to predict Editing and Actor. Picture won't happen, and the screenplay seems to rank low among the movie's achievements. |

I'm thinking it takes both Sound awards and Editing, with an outside shot at Actor. I'm not sure box office alone will be enough to power it to any of these major categories, though. |
