Well, even though my favorite film DID win, the Annies are a joke since they are basically owned by DreamWorks.

It's DreamWork's first Best Picture win since 2010, though, and Disney/Pixar has basically dominated the category since 1992. Disney/Pixar films have won the category 15 out of 23 years (65%).

I think some people view the Annie Awards as anti-Disney after Wall-E lost to Kung Fu Panda, and then Toy Story 3 losing to How to Train Your Dragon two years later. Those are just 2 of DreamWork's few wins, though, and for their best films.

It's not just perception:

WALL-E losing against Kung-Fu Panda was bullshit and everyone, EVERYONE knows it and even though I prefer Dragon over Toy Story 3, it winning at the Annies, while losing everywhere else just showed that the organization is not to be trusted.

As someone who supports Animation being recognized as a legit form of art, the Annies are disgraceful.

Wall-E is a POS and KFP is definitely better.

Wall-E is overrated and Kung Fu Panda is underrated, sure, but it is hard to argue Kung Fu Panda advanced the medium of animation more than Wall-E. Wall E is simply the more revolutionary film and it is a crime it did not win.

I will say Wall-E had better animation and was more boundary pushing. But it pushed boundaries in a way I did not like.

Okay, I bite. Which ways did you not like?

I just find it super depressing to think of the future of humanity as being Chubby McFatfucks who stare at a holographic screen all day. i get it is supposed to be social commentary or shit, but it should have been a lot more subtle, it really just comes off as a fat joke. Sure they find hope at the end, but it is too little too late.

I know good movies make you feel, but I just don't find it enjoyable in any way shape or form. No matter how many times I watch it and try to convince myself to like it, I just can't. The first bit on Earth is charming though, if a bit slow.

Kung Fu Panda, while not as tour de force, has fun and heart and doesn't make me feel depressed as fuck after watching it. Wall-E certainly is a more powerful, thought provoking film, but not in a good way, at least for me.
