I've gotten tired of pretty much all awards... Except for the Oscars.

I mean, I enjoy watching the Globes and sometimes the Emmy's, but strictly for entertainment purposes.

But I honestly couldn't care less about any other award show. They mean nothing.

Because competitions are fun. Of course they mean nothing. Why is box-office relevant? It isn't, we will never see any of that money. Predicting is fun and if you are lucky your favorite film might actually win something. Conversations like this are ridiculous.

seriously. every year the awards come and get hyped and then when its over everyone forgets and no one gives a shit. but they still get hyped up next year.

why do we make these things relevant every year?

Just cuz you don't care about it doesn't mean it's not relevant.

It's relevant because it's the highest honor folks in the film industry can achieve. Could it not be on ABC every year and be viewed by 40 million ppl. Sure it could but with the media we have today it won't.

It's relevant because the awards publicity can and sometimes does lead to an increase in box office that a film otherwise would not get.

It's relevant to those involved because it's a lasting history of what was considered the "Best" at the time.

But, you don't need to watch so don't complain.

The Oscars (or awards in general) is interesting and relevant because it's the biggest version of a company rewarding its employees for a good year, and we all love to see who gets "Employee of the Year". It could be us! (By which I mean "our film" that we feel so attached to).
