Finally Selma! :) I guess a higher percentage of overlap between guild and academy members allow it to make in here.

No Mr. Turner?

Well, Selma finally scores.

I am surprised by the omissions of Belle and Mr. Turner, especially the former. I'm guessig The Grand Budapest Hotel, Birdman and Into the Woods will win.

So, Interstellar is contemporary...hmmmm.

If Boyhood somehow gets a nom here at the Oscars, that'll officially signal the all-out love for it. I'm suspecting it'll grab a surprise nom somewhere beyond the 6 sure ones to just signal that, like Score for The Hurt Locker.

I doubt it.

I mean The Departed was obviously pretty loved too (and I never doubted it would win BP, unlike some), yet it ended up with just five noms, despite PLENTY of opportunities to give it something else.

The Mr. Turner snub is unfortunate.

I hope Maleficent wins its category.

It is a strange film to categorize in a way, as a relatively grounded piece of science fiction versus, say, Guardians of the Galaxy.

On a similar note, the most striking Birdman costume (Birdman himself) is fantasy.

It is in the same category as Gravity. I hope Into the Woods wins its category. :P

Well, I get what you mean, but it is really simple. The costumes are contemporary, but the film is very much science-fiction. So it depends on what they judge.
