Predictions?

Mine:

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Interstellar
Transformers: Age of Extinction

I almost wonder, though, if they will weary of nominating Transformers films for this award, perhaps opening a space of Exodus: Gods and Kings or Maleficent. Or Godzilla.

The Hobbit will probably sneak in as usual.

Yes, I forgot The Hobbit and had to edit my predictions.

Transformers won't be nominated. The Academy is not very fond of those films which they have shown by not awarding the first one (the only one that deserved to win).

I'm thinking:

The Hobbit
Interstellar
Guardians
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Into the Woods (it has effects, right?)

Alt: Godzilla

I'll go:

Interstellar
Godzilla
Hobbit
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Something completely random

50 million's worth. I really hope the Academy awards it in more deserving categories, like makeup, costumes and sound mixing.

It's just that Oscar-y films always have an advantage in this category.

Maybe they will nominate Birdman, lol.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 deserves at least a nomination. The visual effects were perfect.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2's effects were cartoony.

They weren't really, though. The trailers made them look were than they were.

TASM has worse effects than Raimi's series. Both movie looks like they were rendered for a video game.

There were tons of praise for the effects, dude. Even from other visual effect designers.

Yeah, but I can definitely think of five movies with better SFX.

Yeah, because you have no idea what you're looking for.

The finalists are:

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Godzilla
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Interstellar
Maleficent
Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb
Transformers: Age of Extinction
X-Men: Days of Future Past

Big LOL @ The Amazing Spider-Man 2 not making the cut. Slightly surprised that Exodus is not on there.

TASM2 deservedly fell out. Shitty cartoony-videogamey effects.

Just noticed that Edge of Tomorrow didn't make it. Not unexpected, but still too bad.

Wow, forgot about Maleficent. Definitely deserves a nomination.

My picks would be
1. Interstellar
2. Maleficent
3. Apes
4. Guardians
5. Hobbit

X-Men's effects were okay too. But Godzilla really didn't have that many amazing visual effects outside of the monsters, which were barely in the movie

Maleficent better effects than Apes? Dude...

Post subject:  Re: Best Visual Effects 2014

Spidey had better effects than all of them.
