The only big wins that matter for the Oscar are probably the wins for Foxcatcher and Mr. Turner. Foxcatcher has great buzz out of the fest, even already having a 91 on Metacritic with six 100s out of ten reviews. It looks really good already for Picture, Directing, Actor (Carell) and Screenplay nominations. Tatum has equally good awards buzz, but Sony Classics wants to campaign him in Lead with Carell, and a movie hasn't managed a double nomination in Lead Actor since Amadeus 30 years ago.

Meanwhile, Mr. Turner looks really good for Screenplay and tech nominations, and with Spall's win here he could be a dark horse for a Best Actor nomination. Sony Classics is also handling his film though, so it might be tough. And Moore is the fourth actor to win acting prizes from Cannes, Berlin and Venice, actor Jack Lemmon, Sean Penn and Juliette Binoche. Moore is the only one without an Oscar. :( The critical response to her film was mixed, and it's being handled by eOne, so she has an uphill battle to get a nomination.

Everything else is either just a future Foreign Language Film contender or art house event. I'm looking forward to Winter Sleep, The Wonders, and Mommy, though.

I thought Mr. Turner would get the Palme d'Or. These other wins make absolutely no impact on the Oscars.

Unless Foxcatcher somehow collapses between nw and the Oscars (I am thinking Inside Llewyn Davis here), it should be a shoe-in for several important noms. Would be mighty impressive for Miller to go 3 for 3 with his films.
