Feels like David Fincher (Gone Girl) or PTA (Inherent Vice) are going to have their year some point, may be this one

Angelina is directing a super baity film called Unbroken

She really needs to improve from the Blood and Honey to be even a remote possibility IMHO.

It will be interesting to see if Tim Burton can reignite the critical respect he has misplaced with Big Eyes, a drama focused on sixties pop artists Margaret and Walter Keane, played by Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz.

Foxcatcher is still on the horizon.

Mike Leigh has a new film, too. He is at the very least a consistent screenwriting nominee, and this one is set in the 1800s, so it could contend for technical awards, too.

I'm worried this year might suck for Oscar nominees. But it's only March... so...

I'm wondering if How to Catch a Monster will appear anywhere particularly in tech categories. Seems like the kind of film that would.

Jersey Boys could definitely score a bunch of Oscar nominations if it is well done. It's very beloved and it is Eastwood and anyone over 40 in the Academy will eat it up. The summer is definitely a good spot to release it, but I think November would as well.

Into the Woods could, but I don't expect it to. Technical nods and probably a nomination for Streep if she is good (and I heard a brief audio of her singing from it and it seems like she delivers). I can't think of any other acting nominations it would get.

Hopefully Ms. Anna Kendrick.

I do not expect it to, even though I am excited for it. I expect it will be too niche and too wild.

IMO, Into the Woods has a better shot of being the award-musical next year than Jersey Boys.

Agreed

And Chip it IS only March.

I'm gonna be pissed if McConaughey gets an Oscar for Interstellar and Leo got nothing for Inception.

It would be all kinds of surreal and awesome if McConaughey won back-to-back Oscars.

I'll settle for a Globe, Oscar and Emmy all in one year, assuming True Detective is rightfully submitted in the Miniseries categories and not in Drama against Breaking Bad.

Steve Carell is being near universally praised for his performance in Bennett Miller's Foxcatcher.

And we also might be speaking the words "Oscar nominee Channing Tatum" very shortly.

in all seriousness, Interstellar has major potential to dominate the award season if it's on par with Inception.

Yup. Though Nolan's schtick for having every lead experience major loss earlier in life might be getting old.

Going off the draft I read, Cooper's character arc is on par with Leo's in Inception, aka there really isn't one. It is very similar in that it just a challenging test of wills for an individual with an enormous goal.

The Academy Awards will lose all credibility if that happens.

Why?

Jared Leto won an Oscar.

At what point does Boyhood enter this conversation? Does it need a great theatrical run? Is it the type of film the Academy would nominate?

IFC isn't really an Oscar studio - the best they've ever done has been Screenplay nods for My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Y tu mama tambien and In the Loop. However, the reviews are so amazing for this that it will definitely push itself into the race by sheer force of will, as long as it does well at the box office. I think that if it makes over $10 million, it's in the race.

The raves are just too strong to ignore. This is the first serious contender.
