Dallas Buyers Club's nomination is, to me, a fairly major surprise here. Even as far as "period pieces" set in the 1980s go, this one is rather subdued. The fact it showed up must be a sign of white hot passion for the overall film since, based on the general timbre of their past choices, the costumers should have disregarded the overall arc of the race and gone for a costume-extravaganza choice such as The Great Beauty, The Invisible Woman, or even The Lone Ranger. (Or Inside Llewyn Davis.)

I also notice they only selected three films for the fantasy category rather than filling it out and throwing a bone to, say, Elysium or Jack the Giant Slayer or Man of Steel.

I find it funny that two guys named Kurt & Bart make costumes for movies.

Hunger Games should be in the "Period" category. The future is a period!

I would say the Wolf belongs here, but then, there wasn't a lot of clothes was there?

12 Years a Slave upsetting The Great Gatsby and American Hustle is a good sign for the film.

Indeed, though I am still predicting The Great Gatsby to win this specific category at the Oscars.
