Kings of Leon have a song in contention: "Last Mile Home" from August: Osage County. They won't be nominated, I'm sure, but I will entertain the thought for now. They have Harvey on their side!

I can't see two mainstream pop artists winning in a row.

I think "Let It Go" is pretty much locked to win this. It's the only song being submitted from the film to avoid category crowding as with Princess and the Frog and Enchanted, it's an in-film song, and it's also just really good.

It's worth keeping in mind that the songs are viewed by voters in the scene that they take place in, which almost immediately wipes out credits songs unless they have imagery to go with it ("Down to Earth," "WE Belong Together," "Skyfall"). Since "Young & Beautiful" is used within the film, hopefully that can get it the nomination. And apparently Karen O did a song for Her that's sung by Phoenix and Johansson in the film, so that's a possibility too.

I really hope "So You Know What It's Like" from Short Term 12 can contend. I don't know if it's necessarily a great song, but it's a pretty powerful moment within the film, and will probably be better than at least a couple of the nominated songs. And I just want that movie to get some awards recognition.

Some really great competition this year.

Will be a tight race between Let It Go and Young & Beautiful.

Category is hard to predict beyond "Let It Go." I do believe U2's Mandela song ("Ordinary Love") will be nominated.

I am not sure where the Great Gatsby songs stand.

Ed Sheeran's song from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug should be nominated.

Forget "Let It Go," we have a new darkhorse in this category:

Probably the most obscure movie to score a Song nomination in decades.

Fuck this category.

Also, if Let It Go doesn't win... Fuck this category again.

Ordinary Love is such an ordinary song.
But it's about Mandela, so...

Did anyone else hear that "Alone Yet Not Alone" is supposedly written by the former head of the Academy music branch? I'm dying.

The trailer for Alone Yet Not Alone plays as if Uwe Boll remade The Last of the Mohicans.

I'm obsessed with everything about this.

The woman who sings it, Legend/Queen Joni Eareckson Tada, is a QUADRIPLEGIC. Beat that, U2.
