I think I'm a bit more excited to see these than the Oscar nominations simply due to them splitting the comedy/drama categories, allowing more performances to be recognized. Hope this will help someone like Adèle Exarchopoulos, Greta Gerwig, Julie Delpy, etc... |

What about Best Supporting, David? Your predictions look pretty solid. |

Yes, The Wolf of Wall Street is considered a comedy by the Hollywood Foreign Press. As are Before Midnight and August: Osage County. Blue Jasmine and Philomena are dramas. Best Supporting Actor George Clooney, Gravity Bradley Cooper, American Hustle Michael Fassbender, 12 Years a Slave Jonah Hill, The Wolf of Wall Street Jared Leto, Dallas Buyers Club Best Supporting Actress Jennifer Lawrence, American Hustle Lupita Nyong'o, 12 Years a Slave Sarah Paulson, 12 Years a Slave Julia Roberts, August: Osage County Oprah Winfrey, Lee Daniels' The Butler |

It is so odd Before Midnight is considered a comedy if Blue Jasmine is a drama. But I'm glad because it makes it much easier for Midnight to get in. |

Yes, it is a major gift to Before Midnight. Could easily score three or even four nominations now. |

I am curious how Fox Searchlight will categorize James Gandolfini's Enough Said performance this awards season. Here, Best Actor would be to his advantage due to the separate category for lead comic performances. At the Academy Awards, however, I believe it would be easier for him to earn a Best Supporting Actor nomination. |

I forgot they also have two music categories, even though they ignore other tech credits (cinematography, editing). For Best Original Score, I will predict: 12 Years a Slave The Book Thief Gravity Philomena Saving Mr. Banks Best Original Song is always a bit of a shit show to predict this far out, but let's go with: "100$ Bill" - Jay Z (The Great Gatsby) "For the First Time in Forever" - Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel (Frozen) "Ordinary Love" - U2 (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom) "You and I Ain't Nothin' No More" - Gladys Knight and Lenny Kravitz (Lee Daniels' The Butler) "Young and Beautiful" - Lana Del Rey (The Great Gatsby) |

I do not believe they will go for Coldplay and "Atlas." Aguilera, though, I could see. Kings of Leon have a song in the race ("Last Mile Home," a country tinged rocker written for August: Osage County), so I am quietly rooting for them. |

Surely the foreign press will nominate Daniel Bruhl as Best Supporting in Rush. |

Even though I think it's pretty crazy that Before Midnight is being classified as a 'comedy', I can't help but be glad. It would be great to see the film score multiple nominations, so it can ride some Globe buzz and maybe actually get more people to see the film (and check out the trilogy as a whole). Peace, Mike |

Peace, Mike I agree actually. Though people who watch it expecting a comedy might be disappointed ![]() |

I believe it can play fine without having seen the first two. Not the same, but people can instantly plug into, "This is a long-term couple going through a tense patch" and roll from there. |

I have heard of plenty of people not even realizing that it is the third film in a trilogy completely hating it. Sure you will understand it and everything, but without seeing the previous films, it doesn't look like anything else than a husband and wife fight, and many people found it to be annoying. Now I'm obviously not downing the movie by any means, but I can understand where they are coming from. If I didn't see Sunrise and Sunset, I doubt I'd have cared about these characters. |

I have heard the same reaction from people who saw it as a standalone film. And it's not like it's surprising. Like you said, it's not that you won't be able to follow it, but you simply won't give a damn. |
