Predictions?

Based on what we have heard so far, of course, but also the history of the category and general pedigree, my current predictions are:

12 Years a Slave (Hans Zimmer)
The Book Thief (John Williams)
Gravity (Steven Price)
Philomena (Alexandre Desplat)
Saving Mr. Banks (Thomas Newman)

It should be Oblivion.

if john williams gets in, it's on his name alone; his score for the book thief is completely forgettable

Would that be anything new?

Really? I thought it sounded really good in the trailer...

The trailer music is not by Williams. It's from Klimek & Heil and from Abel Korzeniowski.

Long-long-list of eligible scores: http://www.deadline.com/2013/12/oscars- ... 14-movies/

No American Hustle (reportedly scored by Danny Elfman amidst the Electric Light Orchestra, Elton John, and Jefferson Airplane).

If this list is indicative of the overall picture, To the Wonder is not eligible for Oscars.

Man of Steel is 10x more complex and memorable than 12 Years a Slave. I love Zimmer, but Slave just felt like a re-hash of Shame's score, where MoS did indeed borrow off old scores, but its grand/epic nature is undeniably awesome.

Man of Steel has a sensational score. It's what set it apart from the mediocrity of The Dark Knight series.

Nononono, TDK and TDKR had amazing scores.

Zimmer's scores regarding Batman / Superman

1. TDK
2. Begins
3. MoS (main theme is just perfection)
4. TDKR (selina kyle and bane scores are masterpieces though)

And Danny Elfman's Batman still tops those four.
