This movie is incredible. Phenomenal acting and directing.

At this point, I think it has a chance at winning these categories:

Best actor (95%)
Best picture (85%)
Adapted screenplay (80%)
Cinematography (80%)
Directing (75%)
Score (60%)
Best supporting actor (50%)
Best supporting actress (35%)

It will also probably get costume design nods, editing, make up but not sure if those were notables from the movie. The biggest standouts were picture, actor, supporting actress (Lupita Nyong), screenplay, directing, and cinematography.

I think this has a serious play for best cinematography and adapted screenplay and might get a nod for supporting actress. The scenary was not like I would have expected from this film and other people were talking about just how well filmed the landscapes were and the characters.

12 Years A Slave is the hare. There's no way it can sustain the buzz.

It's too obvious.

Think Costume Design is very likely as well. Gravity will grab some techs, but overall I see a pretty clean sweep by 12 Years a Slave. 6+ wins.

I'm thinking wins for:

Best Picture
Best Director
Best Actor
Best Adapted Screenplay
Best Editing
Best Cinematography

Gravity will probably end up with Visual Effects and two Sound wins.

I think calling anything in September is gutsy.

In fact, I named it a winner on August 11th, even before Telluride.

the two only critics alive i listen to, walter chaw and ed gonzalez, didn't like it very much, so i'm rooting against it.

But I sense a disturbance in the force compared to your previous posts.

Looks like it pushes all the right Academy buttons (except disability) - - odds are on it's side.

Erm, no. Its biggest threat is probably going to be Gravity at this point.

Yeah, no. Neither.

There is no threat. Because it's not winning.

American Hustle is still the biggest threat. Gravity is amazing, but no, it's not winning BP at the Oscar.
