if Amour actually wins a big Oscar on Sunday?

There will be outrage no matter which it wins (Actress, Director, or both) but I have a feeling there will be more with an Actress surprise.

If it won Best Picture, the box office wouldn't change much, in my opinion, it just looks too boring.

I do not believe the Oscars hold enough cultural sway for there to be an "outrage." The evening news would run a story regarding the small Austrian/French film defeating a Hollywood heavyweight, etc., etc., but nothing more.

Pretty much.

No one would care. The only people who would create somewhat of a stir would be those shit shows like Extra and Access Hollywood because they'd need something to talk about.

Umm, outrage? Why?

No win for it, other than Best Picture, would shock me. Haneke is currently my prediction for Director.

Surely it's got Best Foreign Language Film in the bag, right? It's the only one to be nominated also for Best Picture, so that alone means it's won Best FLF..

If it gets Best Picture as well, I'd actually be happy for it. I love an upset where the arrogant Americans don't get what they think is rightfully theirs.

Imagine if it won BP but lost the BFLF, that'd be an Oscar contradiction.

Two words: "Who's that?"

But really, I'm guessing that anyone besides Spielberg won't be immediately recognizable to most of the general audience, so that's hardly a knock on Haneke.

And it's a moot point because we all know that Ben Affleck is going to win by write-in votes. ;)

That's ridiculous thinking What's best should win, that's all. And Amour isn't the best nominee. I bet if you watch it, it'd bore you silly.

And about that contradiction, it reminds me of when a British film won Best Film at the BAFTAs, but lost Best British Film. That happend with Slumdog Millionaire (Best Film) and Man on Wire (Best British Film). Also Atonement (Best Film) and This Is England (Best British Film). And The Queen (Best Film) and The Last King of Scotland (Best British Film). Come to think of it, it has happened pretty often. The King's Speech is the only one to win both.

I hope this does not happen.

Yeah, no one outside of people who follow the Oscars religiously would end up caring.

Also, Riva winning Actress wouldn't be an upset. As much as I want JLaw to actually win the award, I keep having a feeling Riva will end up taking it.

"Oh, putain! Emmanuelle Riva!"

Dujardin said he will say 'putain' again if Riva wins.

I (somewhat) liked the movie but I really hope it doesn't win anything. A Director win would be more deserving than Actress, Riva doesn't even deserve a nom.

I wouldn't mind a director win for Amour at all. I didn't LOVE the film, but it was very good and more deserving than Spielberg.

A Riva win wouldn't totally upset me either. I preferred Lawrence and Chastain, but they will get their due eventually.
