 Best Actor - who'll miss?
I think there are only two locks in the Best Actor category at the moment: Denzel Washington and Daniel Day-Lewis.
Then there are four actors fighting for three spots:
John Hawkes (The Sessions) Hugh Jackman (Les Misérables) Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) Joaquin Phoenix (The Master)
Each has issues as to why he might not get nominated.
Hawkes scored BFCA/GG/SAG-noms, but competition is really fierce and his movie is just so small. On the other hand, he has a VERY Oscar-friendly role.
Jackman looks like an almost certain candidate, but let's not forget, his movie is not as well-received as expected and is certainly not a Best Picture favorite. Also, remember Richard Gere who got SAG/BFCA/GG-noms for Chicago and even won the Globe, but wasn't nominated at the Oscars.
Bradley Cooper has been nominated by the HFPA, the SAG and the BFCA, but he seems to be overshadowed by his co-star in Silver Linings Playbook and just might not "not enough of a name" to be nominated for an Oscar.
Phoenix looked a certain bet for a nod, but The Master is waning and he missed a very important SAG nomination.
Right now, I think there'll be an upset and Jackman will miss.

Re: Best Actor - who'll miss?
The difference between Jackman and Gere is that Jackman has received steadier and stronger praises for his performance, so I can't see him miss.
It'll be Phoenix.

Yet, I feel he is being overshadowed by Hathaway in his movie. And Les Misérables is simply a weaker movie altogether.
The SAG miss is a major blow to Phoenix. But then again, Gary Oldman and Javier Bardem missed SAG in 2011 and 2010 as well, yet got Oscar noms.

But I don't get the feeling that Phoenix is all that loved by the academy with his personality and past antics. He is no Oldman or Bardem in term of respect from peers.

True, his attitude will hurt him. Just going by the performance, though, it is extremely showy and larger-than-life in a way that the Academy should love, though. And he's a former two-time nominee.

John Hawkes will miss, unfortunately.
