All I know is that Zero Dark Thirty will probably rule the techs as far as wins are concerned. I see it taking Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and probably Cinematography. Life of Pi will get Visual Effects, Anna Karenna or Les Mis will take Costume Design and Art Direction and Lincoln will go for Makeup. Score is a tough one...I just keep hoping it's Beasts.

I believe Life of Pi will win cinematography. They tend to prefer beauty over more a "muscular," functional shooting style.

Re: Oscars: predict the technical categories
Mirror Mirror's costume designer passed away recently, but I am not sure this guarantees her a sentimental, posthumous nomination. She was only recognized by the Academy once, for Dracula 20 years ago. She designed for only a few films over the course of her career, most of them directed by Tarsem Singh. So she, with respect, is not exactly a Colleen Atwood/Milena Canonero level figure in the film-costuming industry.
There is definitely an open spot in Best Costume Design, though, and I believe it will go to a tepidly received, but incredibly lavish picture such as Dark Shadows, Mirror Mirror, or Snow White and the Huntsman.

Re: Oscars: predict the technical categories
I think Snow White and the Huntsman is very likely for a Costume Design nom, considering Colleen Atwood's history. She could get double-nominated for Dark Shadows too.
And if Roger Deakins alone wasn't enough to get Skyfall a Cinematography nom before, the film's current momentum should be plenty to secure a slot there.
