Argo is a real box-office surprise, a huge hit, in particular for an R-rated film. Praised by critics and beloved by audiences, it will finish with $115-125 million and will certainly garner several important Oscar nominations (Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay and certainly a couple of others).

However, right now, it seems like it will go home empty-handed. I don't see a single category, in which it could get the edge, really.

Adapted Screenplay could be a good bet, but Lincoln and Silver Linings Playbook just seem like more likely winners here. Picture...nah, I don't think so. It certainly won't win any acting awards. here is still Director, but I strongly doubt it can win Director and nothing else.

So, while it may not get the 10 nominations like True Grit got, I see the similarity in that both are surefire contenders for important categories (Top 5 movies), yet Argo might jzst miss out on everything the way True Grit did.

Maybe Best Editing.

Maybe. I'm pretty sure Zero Dark Thirty and Les Miserables will be major contenders for that, though.
