I'm glad Mulligan still scored a nomination. I thought the lead placement for Shame, the more acclaimed of the two performances, would cost her a nomination, but she ended up getting in for Drive. Very nice.

Good for The Help. Not good for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo or Hugo.

The Supporting Actor lineup is interesting. First big showing for Jim Broadbent. Jonah Hill again, and I didn't feel he was anywhere near certain with the Brits. No Viggo.

The Judi Dench nomination is hilarious.

Needs more Jane Eyre.

Judi Dench could star in Green Lantern 2 and the BAFTAs would nominate her.

You know what is shocking? Albert Brooks getting snubbed for Supporting Actor, even though Drive itself and Mulligan have been nominated.

Indeed.

Oh, I s'pose this is also Hoffman's first big showing.

The Supporting Actor category here is just odd. Though I do wonder if Jim Broadbent could sneak into the Oscar lineup. Judi Dench won't, obviously just a God-save-the-acting-queen British thing.

You know what film I am still clueless about? Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. The British love it, obviously. Will it get enough support to get more than just 1-2 noms at the Oscars?

Oh, and I said this is bad for Hugo because, despite receiving a boatload of nominations, the Best Picture miss is incredibly conspicuous. Particularly since the movie's cast, Moretz excepted, is almost entirely British--Kingsley, Law, Mortimer, Cohen, Winstone, Christopher Lee, Butterfield, etc.

American audiences seem to hate it, though.

It's too bad BAFTA didn't nominate any of the other actors. So many good performances besides Oldman's. Cumberbatch, Strong, Hurt, Hardy. One or two of them deserved a nod.

The Tree of Life's Oscar chances.

No surprise, though...I mean it has performed poorly on the longlists already.

Even snubbed in Best Cinematography! Still an ouch.

You're right, though. I just realized how incredibly bad it did on the long-lists.

Attack the Block & Tyrannosaur got robbed in best British film category

You know, My Week with Marilyn is still alive in BP if there's like 8 noms. I stand by it having an outside chance. The British and the acting blocks are the biggest and it could do well in both, to go along with the old timer film industry "Let me tell you about dose days sonny, I've go this great story about Laurence Olivier and Arthur Miller in Paris" votes. And with 2 acting noms and techs it has support in other categories

I predicted My Week with Marilyn in September-- http://www.worldofkj.com/article.php?i=436 --so I would be excited if it was nominated even though the movie mostly blows. I do agree it has an outside shot still. A lot of people would hate to admit it, but I bet it's at least above Harry Potter, The Tree of Life, and maybe even Tinker Tailor in the Best Picture race.

LOL, The Artist is just killing it.

And now Dujardin is in a really strong position having won SAG and BAFTA.

This awards season is so over, lol. Odd the Oscars are still a good two weeks away.

Having seen it now, I think it's really wrong Dujardin will be recognized and Bejo won't, it should really, very much be the opposite.

Kinda, yeah. Spencer is great but she does essentially play the sassy black character.

So is Haczwhatshis taking BD from Scorsese now at the Oscars?

She is a tidal wave of beauty and emotion, she is magnificent.

Just because people don't yell or stomp on someone's face doesn't mean they're not acting.

I think she's pretty hot too, but "tidal wave" did make me laugh.
