Well, Pixar looks like it blew its Oscar this year. What films do you think will make the top three?

I think Rango's in, but I doubt it'll win.

There'll probably be at least one foreign film nominated that we haven't heard of yet.

I don't know if Tintin can make it. None of Zemeckis' mo-cap animated films got nominated, but maybe Spielberg's name will put it over.

I doubt any of the sequels are getting nominated.

Mo-cap films aren't eligible. Could be a furrin film.

Kung Fu Panda 2 is a lock - - it's an excellent film, and this fact will have been discovered on DVD by Oscar time.

Winnie the Pooh is too short to be eligible.

Actually, Cars 2 is on par with Rio or Kung Fu Panda 2 (as dreadful as they are). So, if the year ends here, Cars 2 should certainly be nominated. The winner, of course, should be Rango, which wasn't much of 'Oh wow' either. Hopefully, something really good will come out during the second half of the year. I'm hoping for Rango and other two unheard great foreign animation films.

For sure, or have they just not been nominated?

Wasn't Monster House mo-cap AND a nominee? (Zemeckis was EP though, not the director)

Did they change the rules?

As of now I guess Rango has the best bet, yet I can't actually see it winning so who knows. Probably some foreign film we aren't aware of yet.

Too bad Arrietty is being released in February. From the look of things, iI think it could have received a nomination this year.

Adventures of Tin Tin for the win

Oh yeah, I forgot about Monster House.

So I'm going with Tintin, Rango, and obscure foreign film for the nominees.

Tintin is not eligible. Mo cap is not eligible. The ruling was changed last July, I think.

The same rule states that the running time has to be at least 40 minutes, so Winnie the Pooh is actually eligible (but probably won't be nominated).

Rango
Kung Fu Panda 2
Some foreign flick

All it says is that "motion capture by itself is not an animation technique", which prevents stuff like Avatar and King Kong from getting nominated in the category. But with Tintin, which has mo-cap characters but a fully animated background, I think it's fine.

It'd be funny if Cars 2 still eked out a nomination.

Not as funny as Shark Tale getting one.

Rango for now, though I could even see Rio winning.

Maybe Happy Feet 2 will surprise ;)

I don't know, it seems like the Academy might nominate Cars 2 anyway, regardless of critical backlash.

Cars 2 does have a chance at winning, maybe the good will of pixar will push it on to victory.... hopefully Arthur Christmas will surprise and do well

Too bad there's no stop-motion films this year, far as I can see. Fantastic Mr. Fox or even Coraline could have won this year.
