It's really a very simple explanation and it has been known for a very long time now. DW basically bought the Annies. http://blog.moviefone.com/2010/08/25/disney-pixar-drops-out-of-annie-awards-following-voting-controve/ Quote: Disney contends that the voting body is skewed in favor of Dreamworks Animation, who give their new employees an ASIFA membership as soon as they're hired. As the Variety article points out, this hasn't hurt Pixar when it comes to winning awards at the event, but it is easy to see where they're coming from with their concern. http://www.joblo.com/index.php?id=33610 Quote: As it turns out, it was a long-brewing controversy that started back in 2008 when WALL-E, a film many had revered as an animated masterpiece, was completely shut out at the Annies by KUNG FU PANDA, a likable but not exactly award-winning film. The New York Times picked up on the controversy calling it an "inside job" and word began to leak that DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg had personally paid for a membership to the ASIFA for every employee with the distinction that they would vote along the party lines. http://movies.yahoo.com/news/yahoo-contributor-network/2011-annie-awards-nominations-and-controversies Quote: The biggest controversy about the Annie Awards is with Disney and Pixar questioning the membership criteria for the International Animated Film Society, the one directly involved in granting members who can cast votes for the Annie Awards. Their protest is mainly hinted on how DreamWorks gives every single one of their employees a membership card, which allows a great number of their employees to vote. |

Ah, well. But I liked Dragon more than TS3, so fine by me this year! |

But still Annies have turned into a pretty irrelevant award with these moves. |

these are the Kazzie Awards (Jeffrey Katzenberg) Pretty all of the winners are from Paramount (Dreamworks/Nickelodeon) |

Yeah, pretty obvious result and the same deal as when Kung Fu Panda swept Annie over Wall-E. Won't affect the Oscar though as Wall-E still won too. |

Both Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon were better than Disney's/Pixar's efforts those years. |

They were both on the better end of Dreamworks' efforts, but that's not the point. The point is they have to blatantly cheat in order to win. |

This all heresy. I'm leaning to Dragon being the better film. Toy Story 3 was the best of the franchise but it was more a refined Toy Story 2. |
