Well, you know it was inevitable. This is the thread for the last major category not mentioned yet. And this year is not that easy to predict in this category. Will Michael Moore get nominated for his "documentary"? Will Mel Gibson be rewarded for his risky project? Or will Scorsese finally receive his well-deserved award? What do you think? There will definitely be a 3/5 split for picture/director this year. 1. Mike Nichols (Closer) 2. Marc Forster (Finding Neverland) 3. Michael Moore (Fahrenheit 9/11) 4. Oliver Stone (Alexander) 5. Jean-Piere Jeunet (A Very Long Engagement) - Alejandro Amenábar or Walter Salles could get this 'foreign picture director' slot too |

Here goes Oliver Stone's chance for a nod this year, while Marc Foster keeps gaining buzz. Mel Gibson's decision not to promote The Passion also lowers his chances, but he might still get a nod considering all the risk he took upon him with this project. This film is starting to coem just out of nowhere and beginnign to stor ALOT of buzz. I think it will play out like Mystic River if it's good enough and fast enough to keep up. However.... I can really see 3 acting nods and even a Best Pic nod.... but if it is nominated for best pic, my guess would be this will be the traditional film to be nominated for best pic and not for best director... I, too, don't think Eastwood will get nominated for a character driven film twice in a row, especially since he lost out last year and this year oesn't even look like a chance for a win. but the biggest factor, he might get nominated for Best Actor!!! |
