Which sucks, as he tends to be one of my favorite directors ... maybe the favorite. |

I said it somewhere here that he was going to miss out on Best Director. Given the choice between Nolan and the Coens, the Academy was going to choose the Coens. |

how do nominations work again? is it based just on number of votes? Is Nolan not liked by the industry? fuck. |

If I'm not mistaken, for the nominations the ones that votes are theit peers. So for original score only composers vote, but for the Oscar itself every member of the Academy can vote. |

In retrospect, I don't think Nolan even got #6 spot for The Dark Knight. One of Clint Eastwood (Changeling or Gran Torino) or John Patrick Shanley (Doubt) probably got more votes than him then. Edit: forgot about The Wrestler, surely Darren Aronofsky got more votes than Nolan in 2008 as well. |

Only the branch members vote for the individual category's nominations, and it's a preferential ballot system. |

Perhaps he should try and make a real movie again, and leave the kid flicks alone for a while... |

David Lynch out mindfucked him in Mulholland Drive vs. Memento, and now Darren Aronofsky does the same thing against Inception. Nolan needs to release his film in November/December so mindfuck is fresher in voters' minds. |

Inception wasn't a mindfuck though. It's a terribly linear movie. |

Magnus wrote: My mind is fucked: I can't believe Jared Leto is still acting. Plus, I checked, and it was released in Norway in 2009 (and I go by when a film is released anywhere, not just in US). That lame argument is beneath you - - it was a 2010 release. |

By now, you should know it's more of a popularity contest than anything and the Coens are more popular than Nolan... I think it's great he got snubbed.. |

Yeah, the DGA nominated Nolan for Memento, The Dark Knight and Inception. Each time, the Academy snubs Nolan and nominates the other 4 nominees the DGA had. Pretty strong signal that Nolan isn't a favourite. I wonder if he'll ever get in now. Peace, Mike |

Dark Knight and Inception both featured a car chase. You can't vote for a movie like that.... |

I'm not a Nolan fanboy, but the direction of Inception was far better than the direction of the fighter. O'Russel evoked emotions during family drama well, but that's about it. |

It's not O'Russell. David O. Russell is the most deserving of the five (six) nominated directors. You also can't forget the very compelling, retro-style boxing scenes. And he drew terrific performances from the entire cast, including a lot of Lowell locals. |

Expected blasphemy from the elitist douche-bags that run the asscars. I've decided to no longer allow critic douche-bags the chance to influence my perception of movies, bunch of elitist fuckers. This marks the third time in a row that the superior film has either not been nominated or was beaten by sub 20m garbage. |

Nolan is Inception, by not nominating they pretty much killed the best chance the film had. Inception was only nominated because TDK was not. |

Three DGA noms and no BD nom. How the FUCK is that possible? I don't think there is a single person with two DGA noms, but not BD nom, let alone with three DGA noms. In a way it reminds me of Ang Lee. DGA is the best predictor for winning Best Picture. 16 of the last 20 DGA winners have won BP. Of the four that did not, two were Ang Lee films (Brokeback and Crouching Tiger). |

At this point, for Nolan to receive any awards attention for The Dark Knight Risdes the movie would have to outgross Avatar and get better reviews than The Social Network. And Batman better dies at the end of the film. In a concentration camp. |

Inception was only nominated because of the ten-nod rule. bilge, they didn't care to nominate the film, they were just hoping to appease the Inception/TDK supporters, tards were wrong, gave the film and Nolan a pimp slap right to the face by snubbing nolan of the nomination he and the film would need to have a chance at winning BP. |
