If so I believe Noomi Rapace could get a Best Actress nomination. For one, the release of the Millennium films throughout the year would keep her fresh in the Academy's mind, and her performances as Lisbeth Salander has gotten a lot of praise.

I think I read somewhere that the first two films aren't eligible since they were released internationally before 2010. However, the third film would be eligible I think.

That's too bad. I doubt they'd nominate the third for anything, unless they nominate Rapace as a way of honoring her for her role in all three.

I doubt she can be eligible for number 2 or 3. If the Academy hasn't changed the rules, films that were first released on TV are not eligible, and number 2 and 3 if I'm not mistaken, debuted first on Swedish TV as they were conceived as telefilms, not theatrical features.
Only the first one was originally made for theatres.

Just hire her for the American remake and problem solved. :)

Apparently she doesn't want to do the remakes. Can't say I blame her. Why would she want to play the exact same role in the exact same stories only speaking English? That would be a waste of time. I'd rather do something new.

It wouldn't be the first time, though.

Penelope Cruz played the same role in OPEN YOUR EYES and its remake VANILLA SKY, GERARD DEPARDIEU played the same role in the french original and american remake of MY FATHER THE HERO or even going back to the 30s, Ingrid Bergman was in both swedish and american versions of INTERMEZZO.

For an actor it can be a challenge to act in another language, no matter if same role or not.

I may be wrong, but I believe it would be eligible as long as (1) it wasn't nominated in a previous year (this means Secretos & Prophete are both INELIGIBLE) and (2) it was not given a US release in any previous years.

Unless there's another rule I am forgetting, I don't see why it wouldn't be.

Having said that, I've seen the film, and am fairly certain it wouldn't be nominated for anything. She was very good. But you need to be otherworldly to get nominated as an unknown foreign actress in an independent movie.

But this would be 3 different movies. That would be trying.

It doesn't contradict what I said in my first post, that if there is any nomination it can only be for the first film in the series.
I would like to see a nomination, although I doubt she will be the frontrunner.

Well obviously that's what she'd be nominated for. The first is by far the most well-received.
