Annette Bening for THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT?
Bening was really terrific in this film. She at least deserves a nomination. I'm pretty positive she'll receive one at the Globes, and I'm also very confident this will be nominated for Best Picture (Musical or Comedy) at the Globes. But do you think Bening will get nominated at the Oscars? And with 10 nominees for Best Picture, does The Kids Are All Right stand a chance at getting nominated? It is currently one of the best reviewed films of the year. A few summers ago Little Miss Sunshine was released and was an indie darling, and while the Box Office for this won't be as big, I think there's a good chance it will follow in that movie's footsteps and get a Best Picture nomination. And if it had been released later in the year I'd say it was a lock.

Re: Annette Bening for THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT?
I say Best Picture and Best Actress nominations are guaranteed. Best Original Screenplay, too.
Yes, even Best Picture. Between the stellar (and diverse) ensemble cast, shining reviews, Los Angeles setting, and, yes, a subject matter many members of the Academy are invested in and/or sympathetic towards, as well as the expanded ten-film lineup, I can't see it missing. I know there was minor surprise earlier this year when (500) Days of Summer was completely ignored in every category, but it's clear (500) Days, its references, and its general style alienated certain segments of the Academy. The Kids Are All Right is a more mature film with a more recognizable and respected cast, and should easily follow into the laurel-laden footsteps of films such as Sideways and Little Miss Sunshine.
Bening will be the main story, though. She's been in the business for over two decades, she's been nominated three times, she's married to Warren Beatty. This is a living Hollywood legend who has gone unrewarded by the Academy and has now given a warm, yet tough, and 100 percent convincing, performance in an acclaimed film. Might be time for her to start jotting down acceptance speech notes.

If Bening is nominated, she'll most likely win. Very overdue.

Yes, Bening looks to be the frontrunner at the moment. The main competition looks to come from Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence, but Bening will surely be the sentimental favorite.
Moore is overdue too, so they need to put them in separate categories so both may become frontrunners; that'll be great for the film's buzz too.

Re: Annette Bening for THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT?
Moore's award would be a nomination. She's a fantastic actress and deserves to win eventually, but it won't be for this. Bening's part is the meatier one that stands out the most. Though I do love the scene towards the end with Moore in front of the TV. If she is nominated that will surely be the clip they show for her. Hell, maybe she could win in the supporting category. Depends on how strong the competition is. Regardless, I'm hoping for as many nominations as possible.
I was thinking Bening wouldn't win but would get nominated, however it's true, she is overdue and that could work in her favor. Maybe her chances of winning are better than I originally expected.

Nah, they've been ignoring her lately (The Reaping and Amelia were her last two movies), and Conviction should be no different. She may receive a Globe nom though.

About Bening in THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT: http://www.awardsdaily.com/2010/11/beni ... ent-373023Regarding the comments, I'm so sick of people saying Moore was better! I love Moore, but here? It's Bening's show all the way. She was so fantastic! She stole every scene. I see why she's seen as a lead actress and Moore more supporting. To me, Bening is the lead. She commanded the screen and even with possibly less screen time it just felt like Moore was supporting by comparison. Don't get how anyone could think Moore was better. It's like the people who said Jake Gyllenhaal was better than Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain. Did we watch the same movie? Hopefully Bening wins this one. Best performance of the year so far, IMO.

They were both great but Bening was definitely MVP of the film. I'd love to see her finally win an Oscar...

Hmm, Hathaway's film is getting mixed reviews, so she probably won't even be nominated. Portman is currently the only real competitor for Bening.

Kidman might be a solid dark horse.

Luckily Oscars don't have a race track for her to run.

WTF is with Focus Features? There hasn't been one FYC ad for this yet. Pretty much all of the other contenders have ads out, but nothing for this? Why are they dicking around? Here are this year's FYC ads as of now: http://www.awardsdaily.com/FYC/gallery/
