In terms of nominations in the big 8 categories, I think we could now call Jennifer Lawrence for Winter's Bone the first lock based on the real reviews instead of just buzz: The film's atmosphere of suspicion, foreboding and everyday misery would be too much to bear if not for the rich emotional anchor supplied by Lawrence. Emphasizing Ree's patience, maturity and love for her siblings as much as her tenacity and courage, Lawrence delivers a striking portrait of someone who, though looked down upon by many for her youth and gender, alone seems to possess the guts and smarts necessary to survive and possibly even escape her surroundings. - Variety In Lawrence, Granik has found just the right young actress to inhabit Ree. Her performance is more than acting, it's a gathering storm. - Peter Travers Watching the hauntingly self-contained Jennifer Lawrence, my eyes sometimes strayed to the way she fingered her simple woolen cap, careful not to let it fall—a poor thing, but her own. - New York Magazine Young Jennifer Lawrence is sensational as Ree, fierce teenage scion of an Ozark family of bootleggers, outlaws and meth-cookers. - Salon Jennifer Lawrence, whose resume includes such unexpected journeymen curios as Drillbit Taylor and TVs Medium and Monk, inhabits Ree with a strength and tenderness that shimmers from the screen. It’s a shock to look at Lawrence’s credits and realize her utterly dimensional creation is a “performance,” for Ree is not so much depicted as conjured into being and lived out before our eyes. She’s a product of a raw, Darwinian environment, and there’s no weakness in her, though there is maternal warmth as well as vulnerability and despair. - Box Office Magazine Screenplay looks good too, and the question will be if the film could follow suit. So far, so good: 12 reviews at RT, all raves with an 8.2 average; 91 score at MC. Frozen River was sort of a surprise to grab a couple of major nominations given the precursor result; won't be a surprise this time around. I see major critics support. |

As an avid fan of "The Bill Engvall Show"... This is shocking. Not her hotness... but the acting. |

I can see it. The reviews and general excitement reminds me of Melissa Leo and Carey Mulligan's success stories. |

Definitely reminds me of Melissa Leo and her turn in Frozen River. I believe she's going to be nominated. |
