Post Biggest surprise of the Oscar nominations (aside from TBS)?
Well, the usual post-noms thread. I decided to exclude The Blind Side because I just assume that most would have gone for it anyway since it is a BP nominee.

I think the biggest surprise to me is The Hurt Locker getting a Best Score nomination. That was really a WTF moment. Especially since it got in over The Informant! and Star Trek (which had better scores, as far as I am concerned). This is actually more surprising to me even than The Blind Side getting in for BP!

Three biggest surprises for me:

1. The Hurt Locker nominated for Best Score
2. Lack of tech support for District 9
3. Julianne Moore missing Best Supporting Actress (I thought Gyllenhall and Cruz both had a chance...but not at the same time)

The Hurt Locker's score. I didn't think it had a chance in hell. It got mentioned nowhere.

While I did predict (500) Days of Summer it could have easily been replaced by The Hangover for the Screenplay nod. So I am not that surprised it missed.

No surprise there.

It would actually be a surprise if Avatar managed to win either BD or BP.

Edit: Maybe the only "surprise" is: both Oscar baits Up in the Air and Precious prove to be lagging in nominations (behind Basterds, Avatar, and The Hurt Locker).

I think the biggest surprise was that stupid cartoon. I don't even know its name.

Wait, I remember: Avatar

Avatar was not a cartoon and there are only few like you who are surprised by that.

You have already included Ponyo and Cloudy not getting a nod. But one of the surprises is also "The Secret of Kells" I haven't even heard the name before the announcement. When was it released? Was it made in US or some other country ?

I'm just glad that movies that no one cares for like Where the Wild Things Are, Public Enemies, Summer Hours, Adventureland or Drag Me to Hell didn't get a single nomination.

I just realized that Partly Cloudy missed best animated short. Which is weird as I think that's one of the best Pixar's short movies.
