No director for Up in the Air, and no picture for Inglourious Basterds. Only 3/5 match for BP and BD.

Great showing by District 9. Looks like it's now the more likely one between it and Star Trek.

An Education is expected to do very well with BAFTA, so three-way race here between it, Avatar, and The Hurt Locker (8 noms, tying Avatar, so very good), but for Oscar, it becomes more apparent that the race is between the latter two. Bright Star got its final kiss of death; couldn't even get Abbie Cornish nominated.

Invictus looks to be in more trouble, really clearing the space for having both Star Trek and District 9 nominated.

The Hangover got original screenplay and becomes really likely for Oscar. We could easily see the same nominees in this category for Oscar.

Snub of Sandra Bullock. Boo.

Good job for Andy Serkis.

Could Gabriel win or something other than Meryl in this awards show?

Really Interesting since they have two BP awards which one of Avatar and Hurt Locker gets the other award. Though I am still thinking it will be Avatar since Hurt Locker might not be a well seen movie in British Cinemas but Hurt Locker can still win.

I think so An Education is going to win lot of awards here as per the history of the award shows

Up in the Air and Inglourious Basterds can get snubbed here as well like in GG. That will be terrible though they are already robbed by An Education for one nomination each

Really strong hold for District 9. It seems that it will definitely get more nominations in Technical as well as overall compared to Star Trek which is actually sad for me since I liked the later one better.

Nine is just getting one make-up nomination for sure now. It seems that both Star Trek and District 9 will make into the final 10 at the academy

Basically I think District 9 is the big winner of the day. Seven nominaitons and among them are Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay...that's really strong. I really am wondering whether Blomkamp could snatch the fifth Best Director spot at the Oscars...At this point the film is ahead of Invictus and Star Trek in the race, probably #9 at this point.


An Education's showing is strong, but REALLY expected. It ahd 17 (!!) mewntions on the longlists. Moreover, the three previous BAFTA Best Film winners are Slumdog Millionaire, Atonement and The Queen...and all had even more nominations than An Education. The Hurt Locker getting eight nominations is almosta bigger deal as it is a more American film, but then again it also got its expected nods. Same for Avatar.


Star Trek getting only two nods after 10 longlists mentions is rather disappointing if you ask me.


Invictus was really hurt here. Even Changeling got a Best Director nom for Eastwood. Invictus couldn't even get a pity acting nom for Clint Eastwood.


Nine looks very dead. Bright Star...I just don't get it. The BAFTAs is where it should have shined and it even had nine longlists mentions...hmmmm.


And I don't think anyone has mentioned it, but Coco Before Chanel did quite well with four nominations. I remember La Vie En Rose got seven and actually won four of them!


Oh and The Last Station's actors have been snubbed completely.

Just #9? I do think it has an excellent shot at getting a Director mention. The awards love it is getting is surprising and delightful.

That's bad for IB. Considering its international flavor I think a shot at dark-horse winning is hurt by this and the Eddies. Not that it will effect its actual nominations at the Oscars.

Up got a Screenplay mention. I don't think Wall-E did...

I have Blomkamp as #6 for Director and could easily see him getting a BD nom. As for Best Picture, however, it is more of a longshot (but still in, IMO).

I just see it this way: Up, An Education, Precious, Up in the Air, Basterds, The Hurt Locker and Avatar are locked. No question. Then we've got A Serious Man and District 9 for #8 and #9, IMO...and A Serious Man still stands as a slightly stronger candidate, IMO, if only for the fact that half of the Academy is Jewish and it was directed by the Coens.

Lots of movie critics are Jewish too, and it didn't get any circle mentions to speak of...
