Post subject:	Nine - is it IN or OUT for BP?
This is the question many are asking at the moment. What do you think...will it get in? I think the remaining Top 9 is pretty solid but the 10th spot is mostly up in the air. Pro's: - It has an all-star cast with six previous Oscar winners - It is directed by Rob Marshall whose Chicago is the only musical to win BP in decades - It is being pushed by the Weinsteins Con's: - The reviews are mixed at best - There's a distinct lack of passion about this film - The box-office is very disappointing - Weinsteins might decide to focus their efforts on Basterds

Better be out. Crappy BO and unsatisfactory reviews. There are easily 10 better made, more successful films to pick from before you even think of Nine.

Out; too many hurdles - box office, reviews, missing PGA. The only thing that is keeping it in contention is the pre-release pedigree, but I think the season is long enough for that to wear off. Academy members are getting their ballots now, and they already see what's happening to the film.

Personally, Nine is my 3rd favorite film of the year, and I prefer it to Avatar by miles. Then again, I love musicals and am a theatre/music kid, but other than my hope for it, it's out. I just don't see it happening anymore.

Out, way out. The Reader for all its faults still had passion votes. Nine has none... and 40% on RT... nobody even "likes" it. The only reason it wasn't counted out 2-3 weeks ago is that its baity... which for the most part has hurt films like Memoirs, Australia, Dreamgirls, Walk the Line, etc. in years past

Yeah, but most of those films would've gotten in with ten nominees. Australia's not even that baity! It's like the anti-Oscar bait.

But that was pretty much the minimum # of noms it could have gotten; no director or screenplay made GG pretty much a wash in terms of helping or hurting it. I think it got more of a boost from BFCA.
