Up vs Avatar for Best Picture are those critics really seeing everything? James Cameron getting Director nomination in a visual heavy film and then this film does not get a nod for Best Picture?

I think so they are trying to be different(insanely) and they just wanted to show that Avatar was considered. I doubt that Avatar will get even a single award.

This is the reason people in U.S. and rest of the world believe in Academy of a larger group. Also there seems to be no technical awards which are an asset for an good Award ceremony. But then again that is me

Well, Avatar is very much Cameron's baby. I also think that the film is more deserving of BD than BP...but then again Bigelow still beats Cameron for directing this year.

I think what I like the most about these nominations is Tilda Swinton's nom for Julia. That was a terrific and sadly overlooked turn.

It's also great to see an acting nom for Mackie for The Hurt Locker. Looks to me like the film could sweep these awards.

I'm sad to see "Every Little Step" miss out on a Documentary nod. It won the category at the Satellite Awards. Any chance it gets an Oscar nod?

Jackie Earle Haley (-) Watchmen

Seriously have they really seen films this year. I know that Watchmen did have acting as the only asset but still not as deserving as a nomination.

Quote:
Woody Harrelson (-) The Messenger
is a great nomination

Quote:
Sharlto Copley (-) District 9
could also be replaced by Ben Foster - The Messenger

I love how people complain about all awards nominating the same movies/people and then when one mixes it up people complain about them not nominating the same people

I love the outcome for The Hurt Locker.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox keeps showing strength in the screenplay department.

Also a strong showing for Inglourious Basterds.

Totally agree. Though I am Avatarded these films are showing real recognition specially The Hurt Locker.

I am still am hell bent to say that technical awards should belong to Avatar......oh well never mind that's me.

Hurt Locker , Basterds are very well deserving. Mr. Fox did not release here so I am not sure :)
