I would've put this in the Oscar forum but no one would read it and this seems like huge news (?) Variety wrote: Oscar expands best pic noms to 10 Ganis announces change to Academy Awards There will be 10 best picture nominees starting with the 82nd Oscar ceremony, skedded for March 7, at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. The announcement was made Wednesday morning at AMPAS headquarters in BevHills by Acad prez Sid Ganis. It would also be interesting to see if any BP nominees only get 1 or 2 nominations overall since the other categories stay at 5 contenders. |

Something like Star Trek could conceivably score a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars now. That's actually sort of mind-blowing and cool. But, knowing AMPAS, they'll probably nominate New Moon instead. |
