Is there any doubt that she'sone of the greates, most underrated actresses working today? This year she has The Woods, The Dying Gaul, All the King's Men, and Conquistadora coming out. All of which I think have a chance of getting her a nomination (if Men wasn't a remake) and a spectacular year. Conquistadora: The remarkable true story of one mother's tireless struggle to fulfill her dream to give her severely disabled twins some semblance of a normal childhood-the friendships, learning and cultural experiences provided by a public school education. Also starring: William H. Macy, Chris Cooper, Meryl Streep. I don't know much about the film, but everything aobut it sounds "Oscar-bait" from the storyline, to the cast. The Woods: Based in 1965, an all-girls private school deals with the mysterous going-ons in the woods surrounding the school. Unlikely to get her a nomination, but has the chance to become this year's big horror movie, which would get her more attention. Good reviews so far. The Dying Gaul A psychological thriller set in the Hollywood elite. A fledgling screenwriter (Sarsgaard) is offered a million dollars by a slick and ruthless studio exec (Scott) for his script - a personal story about his lover who died of AIDS. The only catch is that he has to change the film's male character into a female. The grieving writer is seduced both creatively and emotionally into a Faustian decision. The movie got rave reviews at the Sundance film festival, especially for Clarkson and (the also always great) Sarsgaard, and I can't see it at not at least getting some award attention for both of them. I have a feeling they might push her in the supporting category for this one, so she could be a lead contender for Conquistadora, and supporting for The Dying Gaul (I had Clarkson in my very early predictions last year for this movie)? Either way I'm really looking forward for at least 3 of the 4 films. |
