All three are still my top 3 of All-Time. While I agree that ROTK has some weaknesses (seems more tiring now on repeat watchings vs the other LOTR pics) I still think that the thematic/emotional/risk/technical heights still outshine the other LOTRs. However, i have elevated FOTR to #2 over TTT. Just because FOTR on repeat viewings still shines and maintains its magical quality. TTT kinda remained static (a mini ROTK in terms of punch). Though as a piece, they are unequaled. Nothing The Godfather can come close to...nor the Star Wars Original Trilogy. No trilogy has managed to sustain such high quality, storytelling, technical accomplishment and general awards accomplishment across all three pics. |

I consider them as one, but I can't see how anyone who has read the book can not single out FOTR as the best of the three different films. ROTK was not the best movie of its year, much less of all BP winners. And that coming from one of the biggest fanboys of the trilogy. |

I love LOTR but Godfather is better. I was dissapointed by FOTR on first viewing, loved it on second. I fell asleep during TTT. Then loved the Extended Edition. I loved ROTK on first viewing and on 2nd viewing, now it gets a little tired. I'd go FOTR is best of the lot then ROTK and TTT. |

ROTK was my favorite of the trilogy, but I wouldn't rank it above the Godfather. I rank it third of the best pictures winner if I was voting. |
