I say so. Biggest surprise was TDK winning a Sound Oscar, seriously.

At least last year The Bourne Ultimatum surprisingly won 3 Oscars and Transformers lost Best Visual Effects. This year everything panned out pretty much as expected.

umm...well a foreign disaster, but that's to be expected. so I guess. well compared to the last couple of years.

Actor I really thought Mickey would take it. But even if it was the most predictable, it was by far one of the most entertaining in years.

jack black was funny presenting best animation oscar. Hugh Jackman did a good job IMO.

I agree competition this year was so weak that most oscar awards were predictable. I am still stunned that SM won 8 out of 9 categories it was in. Happy that TDK was the only film to win against SM.

Snack, to be fair, unlike The Counterfeiters, Departures is actually supposed to be pretty damn great.

Best Foreign Film was the most predictable category of the year... in the sense that there was no way they'd give it to one of the two movies (Waltz or Class) that anybody had heard of.

It was definitely the most predictable Oscars ever, but for my money, one of the most entertaining and efficiently speedy ones.

I don't mind them being predictable, this really might be one of the few years where I've LOVED all 4 acting winners. Pene, Heath, Penn, Winslet... doesn't get any better than that. And Slumdog was my favorite of the Picture noms.

I think it was a pretty dead on year overall.

Winslet won for the wrong performance this year. Really.

The closest there was ROTK in Screenplay. Otherwise, yeah, that year and the Million Dollar Baby year were also pretty lame. This year at least still had Actor, which despite being neck and neck the entire season still managed to surprise.

The ROTK year was not predictable - because barely anyone actually predicted an 11/11 sweep. I don't think anyone did.

And the Million Dollar Baby/The Aviator year was the only real open BP race of this decade.

That was unexpected, though once it became obvious (Around the Makeup win), it made for a very tedious night.

And The Aviator/MDB fight felt like it was done by Oscar night, honestly. Actor this year was more suspenseful.

Hmm, I don't remember it this way at all. Once The Aviator started out strongly and also won Best Editing, I think most actually still believed it would win BP.

I liked all of the winning performances, but thought that only two of them really deserved it - Ledger and Cruz. Penn was pretty great, but I'd put Rourke AND Langella ahead of him.

And Winslet...well...was not bad. But was better in Rev. Road and Streep was better than her in Doubt.

And I haven't even seen Frozen River and Rachel Getting Married yet.

Transformers losing to the golden compass was a travesty.

Also, I think the Academy will hardly care if ratings go down too much. The international market probably watched this in droves, especially in India. The international market is more important nowadays anyway in more ways than one.

Best Actor was the big one and it went the wrong way. :( Only thing I found suspenseful.

Danny Boyle bounded like tigger though. That's enough for me.

Australia ratings are sure to be huge with Jackman presenting and Heath winning.

Can't wait to watch it tonight when they reshow it at 9:30pm......they showed it live this afternoon, though of course, i'm at work and couldn't watch.

So glad Heath won, totally deserved. This is of course, going to be all over the news.

people's feedback of Hugh Jackman has me really encouraged, can't wait to see how he hosts the oscars when i watch tonight. Looks like he brought the oscars back from the bore-fest of recent years. My favourite host to this day is still Whoopi Goldberg at the 2002 Oscars...she was hilarious. Hope they bring her back in the near future.

Argh, I hate the Slumdog love (10-8 gosh)....it even won in a couple of tech categories which should've gone to TDK or Benjamin Button.

Now i know how some (ok, very few) people felt in 2004 when ROTK went 11-11. Muahahhahahahaha :funny:
